This was the last activity of the girls as members of AKB48 who will be on hiatus until April 2021 when promotions as IZ*ONE end.

  • On October 13, IZ*ONE revealed the first teaser of its first reality program titled “IZ*ONE Chu” through its official social media. A total of 12 teasers were revealed each focusing around each member and their interactions with their group mates. With a premise that through ‘IZ*ONE Chu’, the members who once competed with each other will come together as a team to understand and get to know each other. Fans will be able to see the members visiting Japan, recording their debut album and practicing choreographies for the program. • After the release of Music Bank’s first teaser for IZ*ONE’s official debut on the October 26 live broadcast, several viewers uploaded posts on the program’s main page ” in opposition to the appearance of Japanese right-wing celebrities, IZ*ONE.” Netizens began to claim against the group stating that both Sakura and the CEO of AKB48 has been involved in numerous right-wing supporting controversies such as the fact that AKB48 had sung “Kimigayo” (Japanese national anthem), promoted for the (Japanese) Self-Defense Forces and concerts that embellish war criminals during the broadcast of PRODUCE 48. The controversy reached such a point that a petition was created to the Blue House entitled “Please ban the Japanese right-wing group IZ*ONE from appearing on public broadcasts” explaining that: “PRODUCE 48 is a program created by a collaboration between PRODUCE 101 and AKB48. But AKB48 is a Japanese group that actively participates in right-wing activities and among IZ*ONE, which will debut soon, there is a member who has participated in right-wing concerts. I think it is unfair to prevent an individual from doing their private activities, but appearing on KBS is a different story. KBS is a national broadcasting station that is in accordance with the Broadcasting Law, which also collects license fees from general viewers. I think appearing on a private station like Mnet and a public station like KBS is completely different. Do not allow IZ*ONE to appear on public broadcast stations – KBS, MBC and EBS.” The petition was signed by more than 12,000 supporters in its first day. Petitions to the Blue House also surfaced in response to the above petition, asking the Blue House to reject the petition against the group expressing approval for IZ*ONE’s appearance and debut.

  • According to KBS and SBS, IZ*ONE’s song “You’re in Love, Aren’t You?” from their debut mini album, “COLOR*IZ”, has been assessed as unqualified for broadcast on the said TV stations and therefore banned for broadcast. I love anime, Attack on Titan season 3 has been released, please watch it a lot!” The comment did not sit well with Korean netizens and they immediately accused her of promoting a right-wing agenda as the original author of the anime series was previously accused of being right-wing by Korean fans with some characters and plot being compared to Korea’s actual colonization of Japan in the past.
