I will explain the link between Secretary Min Joo Young and Seo Bom’s uncle, Seo Chul Sik – Joo Young’s brother and Uncle Chul Sik use to work together when they were both injured in the Daeson company factory accident (explosion?) . Joo Young’s brother was critically injured and is still hospitalized with severe burns. Uncle Chul Sik has major burn scares on his upper body. Seo Bom stated she was sad because her uncle must wear long sleeves in the summer because the scars are ugly. The injured workers received no monetary compensation from the company Daeson because The Hansong Law Firm helped to change the dates to show the accident occurred after the workers were fired. So, the company was not liable. The secretary, her brother and Uncle Chul Sik are from the same town. The secretary approached the uncle to convince him to sue Daesan. She has all the documents that show the falsification of documents and complicity that she took from the law firm.

    More info:
    – Actor Kim Kwon plays the boy friend of Seo Bom’s sister. He is the newbie lawyer and law school valedictorian of Hansong law firm. He is the lawyer for Uncle Chul Sik even though he works for Hangson.
    – The money reserved for Daeson’s workers compensation was syphoned off into offshore slush fund accounts over the years with the help of Hansong lawyers.
    – The CEO of Daeson is the husband going through the divorce with the girl friend of In Sang’s father , Ji Young Ra. He is also the father of Seo Bom’s rival, Jang Hyun Soo.

Thank you CoolBeans for that explanation, now I see more of the story, now, why the father and the mother blaim Boom for everiting and mistreat her that way now???It is true that he is a monster(the father)and then the mother “I hate her”, but why why why???the husband was the one try to sheat on her….I did love what all the servant in the house did-they put rules.that was good…but why Boom husband is behaving like his father is right????I did cry when Boom told him that they make her like a pupet, she is smart I hope she can end up been a good Lawyer and teach them.

I am rather hooked on historical Kdrama for a while now, but for the balance I like to watch a modern one too once in a while.
Not flowerboy-drama’s or a regular chaebol-family versus poor family.

I hesitated with this one, but as usual, within the first 10 minutes you know if the drama is the one you want to watch.
Well, Heard It Through The Grapevine is my favorite modern drama for now !

Seo Bom is the perfect timid girl, that knows all the good manners, but will nevertheless have the last, whispered word after a long tirade from her in-law parents.

    The whole cast is perfect.
I like the fact that there is a main story, and there are main couples, but in fact all the things that happen in the staff-circles are as important.
    And as funny !

Thanks CoolBeans, I did not know all of the background. It makes me like this drama all the more.

Why in the world it ended at episode 30? It is supposed to be 32 episodes. I feel cheated.

    Carmarie Says:

I loved this drama, and I do not know why they cut it down to 30 episodes.
I have two K-drama lists, one for historical dramas and one for modern dramas. I Heard It Through the Grapevine is now number one on my modern K-drama list. This drama was refreshing, funny and realistic. I loved the last scene where the father ended up coming home to an empty house. His righteous attitude, cheating, and underhanded practices ran everyone way.

I hope other K-dramas take a cue from this drama and stop with the women who are used and abused by the mother-in-law and have husbands who condone it; or, just because someone tells them to, leave their partner, never thinking about how much it hurts the one they left. If there is no other take-away from this drama, I hope that other writers will pick-up on the fact that couples do have obstacles in their relationships, but they don’t run off, but work through them. Writers please allow your characters to grow up and behave as adults. You can produce a good show without the mindless woman scenario.

Thank you Heard it Through the Grapevine for an well written adult drama…way to go! The actors, writers and director all did a fantastic job.

    choopatiu Says:

This drama was good, the actors played their characters really well,no over acting or unnecessary cuteness and comedy spills.Seo Bom character was believable, she’s not your “typical” korean beauty but she fits the character really well.In sang was amazing too,ive watched lee joon on Gap dong n his character as In sang was a totally different,it only proves that he is versatile as an actor. And the rest of the cast were good too.
I jut wished they ended this drama showing us what happened to the characters after while,2 more episodes would have been perfect.Anyways,i loved it still.

Absolutely loved this drama. Have watched it three times. It’s different but hilarious and so so interesting. Glad I have watched it several times because I was able to pick up on things I did not understand the first time. Every actor/actress did a fabulous job. No complains here, hope to find more like this drama. Oh………Lee Joon was definitely a plus in his role.

    renna Says:

I hate the two lovey dovey.. they really stone head and dont understand whay they did was wrong. How ever they are children who always ask everything to their parents.. and dissapointing their parents. What a shame… but this is only a drama.. i hope my children dont have the same mistake LOL

    MVPM Says:

This is an excellent satire but I think many missed the point of this drama; the servants, the children, the teachers and the in laws are just as bad -or worse in my opinion than the self righteous aristocrats. Even by western standards, the frog-like pregnant and latter teenage mother seems slimy, manipulative, calculating and dishonest while fueling the discord between her husband and his parents. The young lawyer and the teacher use very base and underhanded tactics and arguments to manage and confuse the apparently mentally challenged rich boy into betraying his father. Their real motives directed at placating their pinup envy and ambition for control while formally appealing at the half-baked idealism and sense of shame of the boy and others. The band of conspirators appears cowardly and opportunistic and the girl family, ignorant, lazy and dirty. All the personages reveal at some point their unscrupulous and hypocritical nature -that’s how we human are!.
In short, this is a great but disturbing portray of human society from left to right, rich to poor and clever to dummy. The dry humor alone makes it worth watching.
Anybody know other titles by this director? Hi is a genius.
