Wow! Nice and impressive casting! Welcome back, Cha Seung Won!
And WOW again for overhauling this site! Its way much cool than the old one.

  2. 2 : Yura Says:

OMG Cha Seung Won is Back…

  3. 3 : yonaa Says:

OMG All actors look promising… DAEEEEEEBAAAK
AAhh Yoon Chan Young,, Seo Kang Jun,, Ahn Do Kyu,, Lee Tae Woo,, love love love you guys sooo much..

  4. 4 : Snow Says:

    Can’t wait for this one!!!!

  5. 5 : annipanca Says:

Great…. Kim Jae Won, we’ve been waiting for your good acting skills

  6. 6 : KDCraze Says:

Impressive casts Cha Seung Won, Lee Yeon Hee and Kim Jae Won. If following the history, this drama will have a lot of political struggles during that time and a lot of action rather than romance. I hope they make this historical drama more interesting like Jumong and Yi San. I definitely watch it because all the casts are good.

  7. 7 : ina-given Says:

Cha seung won.. I’ve been waiting for your drama.. Its good to see u again in drama, after I watching 3 meals a day.. You are a great chef and great actor.. Fighting!! 🙂

  8. 8 : kimchilee Says:

Cha Seung Won is a bad guy here?

  9. 9 : Kdramas de Abril: Hwajung e Make a Woman Cry Says:

    […] KoreanDrama, […]

  10. 10 : KDCraze Says:

Just watched ep.1 last night. Cha Seung Won character is the antagonist in this drama but I can understand why Prince Gwanghae has to take power during that time to stabilize the country. Ep.1 is a great start. Can’t wait for ep.2.

  11. 11 : Henry Says:

This drama is interesting to watch

  12. 12 : Rose Says:

In The King’s Face, Prince Gwanghae was a good person, different emphasis on his character in this drama.

  13. 13 : Adeul Says:

There are no Kings in this drama. These are just greedy men.

  14. 14 : tigerb Says:

very interesting ep. 1. i hope the script is written close to recorded history so i learn something. the eng subs are pretty good so easier to understand the story. should follow through.

  15. 15 : tigerb Says:

@Adeul: i thought that in recorded history (not just korea) most kings were greedy in the guise of loving their people.

  16. 16 : bubbly Says:

based on history Prince Gwanghae was a good person and loveable by his people. and i thought the characters in this drama and history are the same. very interesting drama! can’t wait for next episodes. Hwajung Fighting! Cha Seung Won Fighting!!

  17. 17 : Vicki Says:

Great drama but I am kind of disappointed that Kim Jae Won will be playing a king instead the Princess’s love interest. I don’t get why they chose the actor who plays Joo Won is only 22 years old and the actress who plays Princess is 27. I don’t get why lately they always pair younger guys with older girls. It is acting but still it is kinda odd to me.

  18. 18 : Hen Says:

  19. 19 : Henry Says:

    Hwajung Ep. 5, sub please!

  20. 20 : tigerb Says:

@Hen: who posted the notice? MBC? why? i thought that sub-titling are done by people who like to share the dramas to people interested, and MBC has no control over them. did MBC issue a legal notice prohibiting sub-titling?

  21. 21 : tigerb Says:

@Vicki: i think it does not matter what are the chronological ages of the actors as long as they can act very well their roles. in one drama i watched there was this lady who acted as if she were the same age as the lead actor, but actually was 10 years older than him. i did not know that until someone commented.

  22. 22 : Henry Says:

    Thank you subbers!

  23. 23 : Henry Says:

    Thanks you subbers!

  24. 24 : sonya Says:

I just finished watching Jejoongwon and I was totally engrossed and am in awe of all the characters’ portrayals and acting. The story was beautifully woven, and more so, realistic. The suspense was maintained throughout the drama. I hope this drama Hwajung comes close.

  25. 25 : tigerb Says:

ep6: this is written like some kdramas i’ve watched: that there’s more power in people with money who can manipulate the highest authority to their own whims and biddings, making puppets of many people who do not even know that they are being used.

  26. 26 : kez Says:

I think this will be one among many great historical k-dramas. Politics will always be Politics.

  27. 27 : HEN Says:

I subscribe to the MBC channel in the Midwest. I turned on the AM drama Stormy Woman, Monday morning, and it was no longer subbed…Apgujeong Midnight Sun drama still has subs…Lady Cha still has subs–so far….This drama HWAJUNG started Monday with no subs. Flower of the Queen still has subs.

I was watching that Masked Singer show Sunday–which I had not watched before. Something told me to watch till the end and there it was, at the end of a promo for MBC. “Please be advised…”. I hit the rewind to make sure of what I saw…PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT STARTING APRIL 27TH, MBC PROGRAMS WILL NOT BE ENGLISH-SUBTITLED.

I sent an email to MBC, to see if I can get any details. I haven’t heard back yet.

  28. 28 : tigerb Says:

@HEN: Thanks for the info. MBC cannot be selling their channel to Midwest or any part of the U.S. if their shows are not English subbed! That’s preposterous! I think that you can complain to your cable provider, and in turn they can complain directly to MBC distributor in the U.S. Your alternative is to watch MBC dramas which are English-subbed online. Good luck!

  29. 29 : star Says:

This drama is Too Excellence! Fighting!!!!! I think that it; high rating is 20% or 30% or 40%. Who are win grand prize with 2015 MBC Drama Awards? 🙂

  30. 30 : Adeul Says:

So many depictions of Prince Gwanghae, each one radically different.
This drama is better produced than some with a impressive cast.

  31. 31 : mary of bethany Says:

somewhat i preferred Ja Kyung, i have always liked the REJECTED BOY than the Main handsome Lead.. always… in many K dramas, the Big Oppa who always watch after the Pretty Main Cast Beauty in silent, came to her rescue many times, gotten misunderstood by her, comfort her when the Main Handsome hunk (who stolen her heart) hurt her…… in K-drama, as always… (from “Bad Guy”, to “Fashion King”, to “Bel Ami”, to “Goddess of Fire”) i had always like the supporting role Oppa that loved the Beauty, whom the Beauty loveth not.
so i think Ja Kyung gonna be another Oppa that will listen silently lend a shoulder for Princess to cry on, fight and bled when rescue her from baddies, cried for her when she is hurt, and even one day died for her.
Hope Director and Writer have mercy and grace, write in more scene times for Ja Kyung character, before he “part his way”…..
Hong Joo Won and Kang In Woo and King Injo should have sufficient scene times to share with Ja Kyung… and sorry to say, i totally “felt nothing” for Joo Won and In Woo… no matter how handsome they are….

  32. 32 : rr Says:

    please change the MAIN picture

  33. 33 : kingtez64 Says:

Lee sang yoon’s goddess of fire is somewhat related to this drama that revolves his love to the potmaker

  34. 34 : Henry Says:

I like this drama! I hope subs on time!!!

  35. 35 : Henry Says:

When will we see King Injo? The story is really awesome! The actors were really good!

  36. 36 : tigerb Says:

i would like to see how the king reacts when he learns that hwa yi is the lost princess. he cried when he was told that she died. but blood is not thicker than water when the throne is at stake, or is it?
@Henry: guess we just have to be patient with the subs. it seems that the other dramas are more interesting thus they get subbed faster.

  37. 37 : rr Says:

    kindly change the main photo…

  38. 38 : Carmen Says:

  39. 39 : leny Says:

…which episodes may appear kim jae wong? …looking forward for him

  40. 40 : suppedexplorer Says:

I so love this drama…nyone does Han Joo WAn has Instagram?I want to follow him. Thanks

  41. 41 : Rose Says:

King Gwanghae had a perfect opportunity to kill Gae Shi when she told him the Princess and Prince were dead and he pulled out his sword. I know he was upset about the Princess but Prince Youngchang was just a little boy that didn’t plan any coup. He didn’t even understand what was happening to him, much less plan a coup. He was just a little boy who wanted to play and have fun. The King said to the little Princess – “There are no c hildren in the palace and “Youngchang should be punished for what he did,” The little boy didn’t do anything. It was the evil people Gae Shi and Yi Chum that started all the trouble

I hope both Gae Shi and Yi Chum – who are trouble makers – both get killed, I don’t like either one.

  42. 42 : Cembil Says:

Can’t wait to see Kim Jae Won appearance on Ep. 25th

  43. 43 : Cembil Says:

@leny, it said that Jewon Oppa will start his appearance on EP. 25th…I also eagerly want to watch him. Miss him in drama a lot…

  44. 44 : Adeul Says:

I don’t know if in the Joseon era they ever questioned a prophecy by a reputable seer. In this drama, it would appear that prophecies can be invoked for personal/political gain while not ruling out they can be bona fide.

I’d imagine if the seer lived as a mendicant ascetic, having no political or materialistic aspirations, his prophesies would be taken as untainted, devoid of personal gain or politically motivated. Which begs the question regarding the skepticism of the King and his evil maid servant in the script. Could the writer be injection his own possibly unsubstantiated view on the matter?

  45. 45 : Rose Says:

    @Mary of Bethany ====

I agree with you — that the supporting role guy is always rejected. I have seen that in several shows —

With Seo Kang Joon (in this drama – Joo Won) – he was in Good Dr., What’s Happened to My Family and Cunning Single Lady – and he lost he girl he liked in all 3 dramas. And Kang Tae Oh (Dong Goo) in Flower of the Queen. Sometimes it would be nice to reverse the final result and have the main guy loose the girl.

  46. 46 : tigerb Says:

i could not find in the cast above who played the role of prince neungyeang (sp?), who at the current episodes stirring up politics as he wants to be king. i looked up king injo at WP and learned that he is prince neungyeang. question: is the guy who played prince NY really KJW?

  47. 47 : Adeul Says:

A bit of disappointment for me, when Jae Won made his appearance. Some actors and actresses just look bad in period costume.

  48. 48 : Yozora Says:

Loving this drama now, can’t wait for the next episode. 🙂

  49. 49 : Adeul Says:

#46 @tigerb. Yes, that is Kim Jae Wan. Looks different does he not? Like he has lost a lot of weight. But I think period costumes often brings out the incongruent features in people. The cast of “The Great Seer” suffered the same. Both Lee Yoon Ji and Kim So Yun especially looked like they didn’t belong in that time. But so did Ji Sung. Yet other actors didn’t produce the same effect.
My speculation is that it is the type or nature of the alterations made to their faces, that brings about that undesired effect.

  50. 50 : tigerb Says:

#49 @Adeul: thanks for the confirmation. yes, he looked like he lost a lot of weight, but for the role i don’t think that was necessary. the other thing too is the ‘ties’ used in the period ‘hat’ (forgive me as i don’t know what it’s called!) makes the person’s face a little bit thinner/smaller. i’ve watched him in ‘hwang jin hi’ i thought he looked much better then, maybe because he was younger. i have not watched ‘the great seer’ and looked up the actors you mentioned. i saw them in modern time settings and could not picture them in costumes.

  51. 51 : tigerb Says:

splendid politics? up to ep. 28, i saw the usual cr—-ly dirty kind. am i right? it’s interesting though.

  52. 52 : rian Says:

    happy birth day suna!!!

  53. 53 : Rose Says:

I feel bad for Gwanghee – I feel he wants to do good for his people and his country. It seems to be a high concern for him, but so many people are against him. Plus he has bad people all around him.

I think the hateful guy’s name is – Kyson?? Not sure as I can’t find his name in the line up. He called himself a “snake” to the Princess when he set her up and set up the supposed coup with her mother, and is working with the other evil guy – Kang Jo Sun – In Woo’s father. Anyway, I thought the snake guy was on King Gwanghee’s side??? I thought Gwanghee met him one night on the sneak and the snake guy gave him a book. I forgot what was in the book which the King was looking for. Now he is against him with Kang Jo Sun.

Besides hating Lord Yi and Gae Shi, I also hate this “snake guy, and Kang Jo Sun. I hope somehow they get caught in their evil schemes soon and are punished.

  54. 54 : tigerb Says:

up to ep. 30, gwanghae is exiled, gae shi and lee yi chum are beheaded. they were bad influence to the king so rightly they are punished. so let’s see what this new king can do. he does not look very bright and only wants the position and power that goes with it. what can the princess do? history recorded what happened, let’s see what this drama tells and entertains us. i like the guy who portrayed lee yi chum, i find him a very good actor. he should not have shaved or plucked his eyebrows for this role though.

  55. 55 : Rose Says:

I love the music that they play at the beginning of this drama, and at times when something dramatic happens — those drums are so great. Great drama. I feel bad for Gwanghae – I think his intentions were good, but he had the wrong crazy people around him, and he started out on the wrong foot. The actor = Cha Seung Won is really good in this role.

  56. 56 : tigerb Says:

ep. 32: a b__ch and a stupid king, good combination for power!

  57. 57 : Rose Says:

I would hope that Kim Jae Won did not lose any weight. From the dramas, reality shows, etc. I have seen him in, he was already thin. When people get too thin, they look anorexic.

He is a good looking guy and is a favorite of mine.

  58. 58 : rr Says:

please change the main photo and please kindly less the episodes.i begging this program please please…

  59. 59 : Rose Says:

@Aduel and tigerb —- sorry to say that Kim Jae Won lost weight. I saw him tonight on his current affairs program and I was surprised on how bad he looks. He was so cute His face is very thin and looks long due to the thinness and his cheeks kind of look sunk in somewhat. I don’t know if he lost weight on purpose, but he looked 100 times better before. Not a good thing whatever happenend.

I saw Kim Jae Won in Ep 21 tonight and when he was kneeling to support the Ming – with that long hair, he looked terrible. His nose looks so long and his checks are not as full as they were. He doesn’t look good. I don’t know why he is thinner, but hope he puts the weight back on he lost. He is not the good looking Kim Jae Won that he was.

Hawi should have gone back to Japan with cute Jagong and forget her previous life. She should have listened to her mother.

  61. 61 : Rose Says:

I like King Gwanghee better. Don’t miss Yi Chum or evil Gae Shi though.

What happened to Gwanghee’s son??? I only saw him once.

King Injo — needs to go – he is nuts.

  62. 62 : tigerb Says:

@Rose #60: i saw a picture posted of KJW at his wedding. it seemed he had already lost weight then. i wonder if he purposely did it for this role?

i think in most dramas there are twists of historical facts for dramatic purposes, but i think the writers cannot make her go back to her old life in japan.

  63. 63 : tigerb Says:

i like the background music at the end part of ep. 34 when the princess went to the palace and confront the king. i don’t understand a word sung but the music is apt.

I hope they make Gwanghea come back towards the end!Love him so much!I hope the princess gets the throne and rule joseon along with hong jo won!love all three(gwanghea, princess and jo won)!fighting!

    @tigerb Says —

I saw KJW’s wedding photos when he got married. He was starring in Scandal, A Shocking and Wrong Incident. His cheeks were fuller than and he looked much better than he does now. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I watch his current affairs program, and you can see the drastic change in his facial features when he lost the weight. You could be right that maybe he lost it for this show, but why would he???

If you click on his name above, it brings you to his photo and he definitely was more handsome prior to losing weight. Time will tell if he puts any back on.

Anyway, he is crazy in this show.

  67. 67 : Rose Says:

I just saw Ep 30 – where Gwanghee abdicated the throne and now maniac Injo takes over with his crazy henchman – is it Imhae? who helped him become the King?

What happened to Gwanghee’s wife and son?? I only saw his wife once when she was questioning evil Gae-shi about giving the concubines something in their drinks so they could not get drunk. Like did not Gwanghee know about that??? Or didn’t he care?? Gwanghee seemed to have feelings for Gae-shi!! Icks. And his son – I only saw him twice. Did they go into exile with Gwanghee also????

  68. 68 : Rose Says:

Another question- was Gwanghee that bad of a King???

He did do some terrible things to get the throne, but so do all the others. He seemed to care about his people though.

I love the music in this drama. It is beautiful.

When you are a “concubine,” do they call her “your grace?” The concubine I am re erring to is “So Jong Jo.” She was a concubine one month – didn’t waste anytime moving in with the crazy king – and they call her “your grace?!” She is a good actress “Kim Min-Seo” – I have seen her in several dramas – she is good in the roles where she is an evil person – Rosy Lovers, The Goddess of ire.

  73. 73 : Rose Says:

Hello out there — is anyone still watching this drama? I have a question.

When So Yong Jo- the evil creep who continues to scheme, now wanting to get rid of besides the Princess, the Crown Prince and King Injo, who she helped get to power —

when she set up Princess Jeongmyoung and they found it was her that set her up, I think King Injo’s wife was going to have her go to trial, etc.????

So what happened, nothing? Did she ever go to trial? Oh, so she could not move up in rank was that it??

Why is So Young-jo still allowed to stay by the King and get away with her evil deeds. Why couldn’t they remove her from him??? I don’t understand why she is still with him.

Pangeran “Neungyang” orang idiot, bahkan setelah ngambil tahta jadi Raja.
Dari Mukanya aja udah keliatan idiot, pengecut, pemikirannya dangkal bahkan kayaknya ga punya otak!

I have watched this drama. It’s so great historical drama which is ever I watched, the drama which is consist of 4 The Kingdom of the Joseon Dinasty with the different Kings and different goverment, especially the character of Princess Jungmyung who smart, brave, and humble, doing just for her people. Then it made me crying when prince Sohyeon died, because I ever watched a drama about his story before, I think he will be happy ending with his wife, Kang Bin. The last, Hwajung is wonderful drama, actress and actors are so totaly, hardwork, n good acting, so make me joining in the feelling of the story. Bravo

I was sorry to see In Woo pass away – shot by his evil father. It is sad that he didn’t find anyone else to love and to love him. I liked him (Han Jo Wan) in his role in this drama and in other dramas I have seen him in.

I was surprised that in the end the Princess would not help out the King that she helped to get to power. She has a right to be a Princess, I was surprised she would not be his ally and went back to the army division. The King needed her help going towards the future.

So many useless killings in this show — The Crown Prince Sohyeon (Baek Hyun Kang) was killed for trying to good things for Joseson. His father, the idiot King, didn’t trust him. He believed the evil guys who lied to him and his evil concubine who had his son killed so her so could be King. And the idiot King even had children with her, knowing that she set up the Princess.

Those guys that stand outside the King’s Palace to protect the King are worthless. Those guys – are they Ninja Warriors – whatever – in black are really experienced and just kill them.

I thought it was a good show, loved the music and the cast of characters. At least most of them.

  80. 80 : Eve Says:

Yes, I agree with Rose and others. There was too much killing. Too much evil and the bad people did it too much.

Whenever a story is too long that is what happens. The beginning was good. Long stories, meaningless ending.

I beg can someone tell me any series of this writer so I will be careful next time.

    Thank you.
