    My EOE ending, episode 57:

Opening scenes: we pick up from the shooting scene.

DC is on a stretcher, DW and YR are on either side of him as he’s being rushed into the emergency room, the nurse stop DW and YR at the door. Nurse: I’m sorry you can go inside. For what seem like forever the doctors work on DC, mean while YR is pacing outside and given DW murderous looks, that clearly say “if DC dies because of you jackass, don’t count on living to long ”. Later everyone make their way to the hospital huddling together waiting for news on DC. After several hours the head doctor finally comes out, everyone rush him. Doctor: we removed the bullet from his chest and stop the internal bleed, however because of the extreme trauma the patient’s body has suffer, he has slip into a coma. We have done everything medically possible for him; the rest will have to be up to him. Hearing this Mrs. Lee collapse to the floor and start crying, DW and Little mother rush to her support her weight. YR looks about her and sees that everyone is ready to give up, cleaning the tears from her face, she lift up her head. YR: Ajushi will not die, he love’s us too much, and he still has a great deal to do, he wont die. Everyone turns to look at her as if seeing her for the first time; turning her back on them, YR walks into DC’s room to look in on him.

As DC fights for his life, Mr. Hwang quite happy with his ill gotten fortune, which he actually had to rip from the cold dead fingers of Mr. Chun, right before pushing Chun’s body into the lake to join Rebecca and STH, decide now is the best time for him to get on his little boat and make a hasty escape. Unfortunately, unknown to Mr. Hwang is the fact that STH having gotten tired of him had hire the assassin which Mr. Hwang was kind enough to introduce him to for the Lee family break cutting, to place an unpleasant little surprise on the boat for him. A little over an hour into his boat ride Mr. Hwang began to hear a beeping sound as if something was counting down, before he could take two step to look around, the world saw the last of Mr. Hwang as he was blow into a thousand little pieces of fish food. (Don’t worry he won’t be lonely, Mr. Chun, Rebecca, and STH have all been kind enough to save him a nice toast place beside them)

Scene two: Next day, the DA’s office

DW is sitting in his boss office, with head held low, he hands over a heavy envelope to his boss: inside is all the information on STH including the tape of DC’s drug set up. DW: someone like me has no right to wear a DA’s uniform, I’ve made so many mistakes and causes so much pain, that I’m not sure I can ever began to repair the damage. Once I’ve finish cleaning the mess that I’ve made of this case I’ll hand in my resignation. Leaving the office DW runs into the DA in charge of MH case, DW asks if he could have a minute. Inside the other DA’s office DW drops down to his knees and begs the DA for a favor. DW: I know I have no right to ask this but I hope that you can grant me this favor as, one colleague to another. MH may have delivered STH dirty moneys, but he did not do so of his own free will, he has also voluntarily brought himself in, and help out with this case. So please don’t make him spend any jail time, give him a plea deals with probation. Please I beg this off you. JH who had also came to see the DA about MH case saw this whole scene while standing at the door, leave quietly she went home and told the mothers what she had seen.

After making a deal with the other DA, DW gets into his car and make’s his way to the Lee house. In the yard Wang Geon and Uncle are both standing leg brace apart and arms ready, looking at DW like they really want to kick his ass, however because Mrs. Shin and Mrs. Lee each have DW by an arm leading him into the dining room they manage to control themselves. Inside DW once again got on his knees asking the mothers for forgiveness. Of course he was forgiven as Mrs. Lee touching his face asked him if he had his dinner yet. The next day having spent the night at the Lee’s, DW and the women decide to go to the hospital to visit DC. Spotting the doctor in charge the women decide to ask him how DC is, given DW a few minute alone with DC. DW walks into DC room and sees YR by his bed side. He tries to walk over to DC bed side but YR blocks his path: YR: what do you want, unable to look her in the eyes, DW: how is he doing. YR: That not something for you to concern your self with. I know DC loves you and once he wakes up, he along with every one else will forgive you, but not me. As far as I’m concern, you killed my father, almost caused me to loose my life, and put my husband in this bed. For everything that you have taken from me DA Shin Dong Wook, I want you to understand something: my husband may not be able to hurt, but the same doesn’t go for me, after all I’m Gook Dae Hwa daughter, and if you ever hurt me and mine again, I will use my last breath to make you pay. Now if there’s nothing else you need, the door is over there. (For those people who are asking how YR can do this, as DC wife she has all the legal right she need, and as Gook’s daughter she has justification. Sorry I want to forgive DW completely, but I still have some residual resentment from the DC hand cuffing)

Scene three: 9 months after the shooting
(DC is still in a coma; I left him in the coma because I feel that this poor man truly needs a rest from his life.)

DC is lying on a bed with a respirator in his mouth; YR is sitting in a chair next to the bed her eyes close, and one hand holding DC. She feels a small squeeze of her hand, her eyes fly open and she freeze unable to even breathing for a second. Slowly we see DC open his eyes, close them and open them again. After a moment he raise his hand to his mouth and removal the tube from the respirator, this whole time YR is still frozen, afraid to move less everything turn out to be a dream. Slowly and painfully we see DC seating up, finally he turns his head and there is YR, her eyes already filling with tears. For what seem like an eternity the two simply look at each, finally YR spoke: Beggar Ajushi I knew you would not leave. YR tries to turn to go get help, but DC’s hand come out to stop her, he’s looking transfixed at her stomach, YR looks down at herself and gently place her other hand on her round, plump belly, looking up she smile at DC. At that precise moment whether it was the shock of DC waking up, or the baby knowing that his father was safe, YR is hit by her first set of contraction pain, she quickly sits back down on to the chair. Seeing YR in pain DC tries to get out of bed to go for help, however, given the fact that his body has been out of commission for some time he ends up falling over: but pushing pass the pain DC drag his body to the door open it and pull in a nurse walking by.

Two hours later YR is still in labor and the Lee family having been notified rush to the hospital, they soon learn not only will there be a new member to the family, but that DC had also woken up. Everyone cries, hugs, and laugh. A few minutes later a nurse walks out from the delivery room and said YR was asking for her husband. Cautiously DC walks over to YR who was still in the process of give birth, linking his fingers to hers he began to encourage her, as together DC and YR ushered their first child into the world. Forwarding some more we arrive at the EOE original ending scene: the cake is on table and everyone is sitting around smiling as YR bounces her adorable baby on her knees. Everyone turn at the sound of foot step and DC is standing at the door holding a present in front of him. Mrs. Lee: DC come in, DW: brother welcome MH: Brother, YR: Honey you’re late, me and our child have been waiting for you. DC walks into the room, place the present on the table, takes the baby from YR, puts his arm around her and looks out at his family and smile contently. DC: I’m home.

    Final scene: 8 years later.

Over the years the family have been through both good and bad times, sickness and lost: there first lost was Uncle who after a long battle with cancer died. Yet whatever came their way they dealt with it as a family. DC was able to keep his promise to Mr. Gook, with Wang Geon and the other boy’s help DC clean out all the corruption from the Casino, turning it into a productive business and major tourist attraction for Korea. DW quit the DA’s office and took over his grandfather’s company, he worked really hard and after a few years he was able to put the company back on its original path. MH and JH work together at the electronic company, and as a result the company became one of Korea’s leading electronic companies ushering in the cell phone era. MH and JH had gotten pregnant for the second time, but the baby was still born. For along time JH was unable to come to grip with the lost, but slowly with the love and support of the family she eventually was able to bear the pain. After some time had pass, MH and JH decide that they would look into adoption. YR continued with her foundation for single women, adding a trade school, health center, and childcare service to her foundation.

Today everyone had gathered for a very special opening ceremony. The camera slowly descended on what looks like a breathtaking garden (Eden). Mrs. Lee, little mama, and Mrs. Shin are sitting at a table cutting fruits, on their left Wang Geon and Ok Hee are laughing their heads off as their baby daughter try to fit her tiny foot into her mouth. Sitting on a bench to the right is JH, DW, and his very pregnant wife the head DA’s daughter. Further past the garden we see a field with several children playing soccer, also playing along is MH and Taeho who is now a teenager played by Kim Bum, DC and his son Lee Gook Ki are also on the field. On the sideline is a small cheerleading squad made up of YR, and two adorable twins 5 year old girls, name Misoo and Michelle (she was named after Mike) cheering on their dad and brother. While the two teams are busy laughing and argue, the camera travels to Father Han who is looking out on the game with a gentle smile on his face. Behind him we see a very tall build with a big sign reading “The Lee Ki Chul Memorial” the camera widen and we see several other buildings, a hospital, homeless shelter, business, a factor, a hotel, schools, and a market place. It had taken eight long years to make his father’s dream a reality, and although there was still a great deal more work to be done, but, on the wasteland where his father and so many other had been berried in the mines and died, Lee Dong Chul had build a small community for the people to live out their life’s in dignity and prosperity.

Music start to play and the credits start to come up, the camera slowly fades out of focus and come back again to little boy sitting on his father’s shoulders looking out at a mountain. At first we think its DC and his father, but as the camera gets closer we see its DC and his son. DC: Gook Ki you have to be the kind of man who can embrace a mountain. GK: Appa, how can I embrace a mountain. DC: with love my son, real love which will let you embrace both good and bad men. GK: even bad men. DC: yes, both good and bad. Hearing their name DC and GK turn around, coming toward them is YR and the girls. The music and credits continues to play as the screen slowing fads to black.

Love this EOE drama a lot. Bought the DVD and saw it twice already. If anyone have not watched it, do watch it. It’s a really really good drama.

The drama is melancholy yet it was so good. Have not seen such a heartbreaking drama for a long long time. Love SSH in his role …. he portrayed so much emotion and when he is tough he does look tough. He looked so charismatic with his spectacle and as a corporate figure …. especially the part where he walked in where Shin Tae Hwan and Shin Myung Hun handed the acquisition agreement (sale of Taesung Electronics) to Dong Chul’s lawyer.

This is the longest, touching and sad K-drama I watched. It’ been haunting me even in my dreams. Hats off to Song Seung Hun & all cast & the writers. I can’t say enough praise about you all.
This drama made me aware of the dark side of jealousy, distrust, politics, gangs & societies. On the other hand it also showed the power of love, forgiveness of sins and the bonding of family.
It’s my wishful thinking that these evil gangsters & government corruptions would demolish in our modern civilized society but I doubt it.
It is indeed the best K-drama I’ve ever watched but the sad scenes are going to bother me for a long time to come. Recommended only to those with stronger emotion.

56 episodes is too long. The beginning part is too heavy going. They keep dwelling on the same point and the cast keeps repeating the same thing continuously for many episodes.Seung Hun getting Daesang award?! I thought that he did not deserve it as he was still not in his best.

    Winnie Says:

I loved the series so much, however I found that it can be shortened because many situations kept repeating themselves (in the revenge plot and so). And the ending is sooooooo bad, what is this about? The guy gave his all to his family and lover and at the end he dies???? I found it so frustrating. Otherwise, it is a big enjoyable korean drama.

    MacDuyen Says:

I watched this drama because of Song Seung Heon in it, but I felt in love with both the younger Lee Dong Chul characters instead, especially the teenager Lee Dong Chul (Kim Bum) They did a very good job portraying their characters. I don’t know if Song Seung Heon was not at his best or because of his character as an adult Lee Dong Chul but I do not like him at all in this drama. I do not like the relationship he has with Young Ran – Grace and her father. Lee Dong Chul deserved to die because of the patch he had chosen to take. He can just said no to a lot of situations but he didn’t. There is lot of ways he can do to save his younger brother Lee Dong Wook. Of all the lives in this drama, I think Shin Myung Hun life is the most pitiful live of all, I am glad that at the end his wife recognized his love and turned around with him, and Park Hae Jin did a very good job portraying this character. Overall the drama is “too much drama” and stretch out too long, and I do not like the Lee yeon Hee and Song Seung Heon together, no chemistry between them.
