John Lee

John Lee is an American (born in South Korea) financial advisor and former fund manager. He is the current CEO of Meritz Asset Management. He has been working in the investment industry since 1985 and has published several books about economics. He studied Economics at Yonsei University in Seoul but dropped out in 1980 and then moved to the U.S. where he received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from New York University in 1985.

He was a Managing Director at Deutsche Investment Management Americas Inc., and a member of the Global Equity Group, focusing on investments in Korea. Then, he became a Managing Director/ Senior Portfolio Manager at Lazard Asset Management and led the South Korean equity team, and was responsible for investments in Korea. Since 1991, he has been the manager of the financial portfolio known as "The Korea Fund" and, as a result of his long-term dedication and experience managing the fund, he is an expert in the dynamics of the Korean market.

In 2008, his team was awarded by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for contribution to foreign inbound investment to Korea and in December 2009, Mr. Lee was awarded by the Financial Services Commission for his outstanding efforts and contribution to the Korean capital market. In 2010, Mr. Lee published a book in Korea titled “Why Equities”.
