Synopsis

Not One and Not Two – a Buddhist belief that means that while individuals are not the same, they are also not different, either. At the same time, this is a question the film Not One and Not Two asks. The first half is filled with the day-to-day life of Young Mok, a man who is dying from an incurable disease. He trains his mind through meditation and 108 times every day,and he wants to attain enlightenment before he dies. But from time to time, there is a crack in daily life. A figure that does not know whether it is a ghost or death begins to approach him. The second half contains the time of the artist Ji Woo, who struggles with the preparation of a new work. She is avoiding animation work for some reason. Currently, the topic that worries Ji Woo is the end of the story and death. There is also a hole in her daily life, which she wants to somehow confront with her work. Young Mok and Ji Woo live in the same house, but they do not know each other because they belong to different time zones. The film sensibly depicts the moment when the two space-times mix, intersect, and are affected, and try to embody the sweet word of ‘enlightenment’. At first glance, it seems like an ideological story, but it is a work that tries to reach the subject through the arrangement of the most basic film material called cut.
