A Promise

When mob boss Gong Sang Doo is admitted to a hospital with injuries inflicted from a fight, Chae Hee Ju, a third-year resident, becomes his physician. His head completely covered in bandages, she assumes him to be a rough, brutish type of person. But when the bandages are removed, however, his gentle eyes and mild nature surprise her. Sang Doo is also charmed by Hee Ju’s self-confidence and refusal to back downto anyone. Sang Doo decides to win her heart, buying her expensive cars and gifts.
Ultimately, he discovers that she just wants him to be himself. The two fall in love, spending more time together. But Sang Doo soon realizes that their relationship places Hee Ju in danger, and so he tries in vain to end it. When a power struggle leads him to terminate a subordinate which his faithful friend takes the blame, Sang Doo decides to turn himself in. The two lovers meet for the last time in an empty church and pledge their hearts to each other.
