October 11th, 2008 at 11:06 am
a beautiful film ,worth watching, waiting for and certainly worthy of keeping as a classic for the future generations even if the story is not entirely accurate.
October 19th, 2008 at 9:38 am

October 25th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
anyone knows what is the ending of this drama?
October 26th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
so far so good, this drama makes u laugh, sad, anxious and fall in love..it’s good to see something new and educational…so much variety on it that u have a lot of thinking to do on what will be next thing to happen…it’s amazing how they can interpret a simple painting/drawing into a deep meaning to it..
October 28th, 2008 at 6:01 am
this drama is getting interesting…i love how the two bickers at each other, and danwon calling yoon bok mini bean..hahah it’s funny…i think there’s a little bit similarity from yi-san on how the king wants a revenge from the people who caused his father’s death..i just love everything about this drama…thank you for making such a great historical drama..unlike the other historical drama that is so disappointing…
October 30th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
True enough! I started to love this story even before it’s aired in my homecountry. I love Park Shin Yang n Moon sooooo very much! Read some blog saying that this drama is better than the rest of the historical drama. Just couldnt wait to see what going on in the next episode (been watching it in mysoju). Hey, do u think it’s gonna be a sad ending, cause in the first episode they showed danwon went into a hut and crying over a painting of a lady painted by Hyewon(YoonBok)….je bal.. no sad ending..(T.T)
November 2nd, 2008 at 12:27 am
this is very good tvseries

November 2nd, 2008 at 8:44 am
i hope there’s no sad ending, but we can’t really change what really happens in real story, unless the writers will make a little turn to make the televiewers happy. this is so intense…i love every single of it…
November 4th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
episode 10 is the funniest episode so far specially when yunbok was taking a bath and danwon came in…hahahhaha it made me forget that i am the only one who is awake and everyone’s sleeping, and i just laugh out loud…ooppsss sorry….i can’t wait to watch the next episode…
November 7th, 2008 at 10:40 am
hmm, anyone knows where else i can watch this with english subs aside from vikii? for some reason, vikii suddenly stopped playing on my firefox and safari servers…
i managed to watch the first 5 eps though, and maaaan, they were mindblowing! PSY and MGY, two of my faves in one amazing drama… >.
November 11th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I’ve already finished watching episodes 1 to 12. it was really great!!
Both of the Artist are really good. . MGY and PSY are the best.. wow!! OMG!!
Geun Yeong is really cute and beautiful, she’s the best!! This drama is a perfect drama for me.
Can’t wait for the remaining episodes to come.. hayyyzzz..
This is a must to see movie!!
November 14th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
episode 12 was like a jaw dropping situation, when Yb ripped the royal portrait…so intense that made my mind lost a moment…hehehe then watching episode 13 made me feel emotional and at the same time a big relief, i’m so impress how clever the King saved YB, didn’t see that coming…hahahah seems like the ministers got caught from their own trap…good one….
November 18th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
whats the title of the novel
November 28th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
why why why? this drama is almost done. episode 17 made my cold worst with the runny nose and everything…it made me cry watching Yunbok remembering what happend. hu hu hu i hope they will extend painter of the wind…
November 29th, 2008 at 4:07 am
i must say that this is by far the best period drama i’ve ever seen my whole life. this story has a great plotline and their OST is also nice to listen to.
When you watch each episode, it makes you wanna continue watching the next episode even though you’re dead tired.
what a beautiful drama. 😀
November 29th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
OMG, I can’t believe this drama is ending next week!
SYB and KHD are going to have a competition next episode! So exciting!!!
I love YB and JH~ 🙂
Yes, the music, cinematography, well I absolutely love everything about Painter of the Wind! =D
It’s a pity that the ratings aren’t higher…. it deserves much more…
December 5th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
This was the best drama. Its now over but I feel I want more. I know the ratings were not the best (I’m not quite sure why) but will there be a second season. There has to be. I need it to be. I know Korea doesn’t approve but I want to see the love story develop more and I want Queen mother to be punished. Korea really missed a great drama. The cast was great. I wish my message really made a difference in them making a new season.
Thank you Painter in the wind. I hope to see more.
December 6th, 2008 at 4:03 am
This WAS really a great drama. I’m sad it’s now over. I too, hope there will be more to come……LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! Bravo!!!!!!
December 6th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Okay…the last 2 episodes was kinda disappointing for me 🙁
But other than that, Ep 1 to 18 were FABULOUS! 🙂
MGY did an EXCELLENT job~ MCW was GREAT too! =D
December 7th, 2008 at 6:32 am
thank you painter of the wind…such a great drama…it gives me diiferent feelings watching it…i agree why the ratings not that high, maybe koreans doesn’t like the young and mature pair, or the painter and keising love feelings…when i watched the paintings evaluated on the competition, it amazes me how a mere drawings can be interpreted that much….it gives me goosebumps when the sunlight hits Danwon’s painting…woooo…i just wish they could really be together at the end though, as right now i don’t care what Yb’s reason to leave him…
December 10th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
THE BEST DRAMA FOREVER AND EVER!
I really, really wish also that there will be SEASON 2 !
There are a lot of things unresolved…even the mastermind of the crimes were not punished yet. And I know HD will search for YB until the ends of the world..until he finds her again (sigh). IT IS SOOO BEAUTIFUL.
December 11th, 2008 at 2:43 am
Excellent Story! If the ratings were higher it would probably have a sequel. One may still hope…. I sure would like to know more about the novel though…. perhaps it would provide the closure desired.
December 11th, 2008 at 5:02 am
AWESOME DRAMA !!
I’m so glad to see so many good review and feed back about this drama because I love it ! Too bad the rating in Korea wasn’t that great.
The chemistry between Moon Geun Young and Park Shin Yang is awesome even though there is age gap. I really enjoy the costume and the paintings and the performance from both lead actors were awesome.
MGY was a tiny little girl in Autumn Tale, she has grown into a beautiful young woman and she is cute, hope to see more drama from MGY.
December 13th, 2008 at 3:49 am
I just finished the series, I love every single part of it except the ending.
They are obviously in love with each other, but why they have to part? Too bad the ending is a sad one. 🙁
I went back and watch some of the episode again, some conversations and some scenes make so much more sense the 2nd time around now that I finished the series , especially the conversation between YB and HD, I love the conversations, it`s beautifully written.
December 15th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
this drama so..good, coz..i love paint…i can get more-more info about art/sketch…more information of art education. thanks .. give me more literature about art.
December 17th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
will there be another episode or that’s the end?
December 29th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
THE BEST DRAMA I’VE EVER SEEN!
the director and screenwrite have done a good job. they make us want to watch next episode after watching one. why does this drama has a low rating? and the fucking ‘east of eden’ and ‘mum’s dead upset’ get a high rating?
January 2nd, 2009 at 6:42 am
Dear Mrs.joojihoon,
I believe that a lot of people like dramas that tend to be “low brow” with good looking casts, but little content. Dramas like this one attract people who are interested in well written and acted dramas that can also be educational. Some of the best dramas I have seen have been low rated.
Before watching this drama, I did not know anything about Korean traditional art, now I can appreciate it and understand it a little.
The ending is appropriate since little is known about the painter portrayed by Moon Geun Young (who was a real historical character).
I am sad that Park Shin Yang has been banned from Korean TV networks. I hope this is not the end of his acting career. He is an excellent actor and should havebeen nominated for this role for a mayor acting award.
January 4th, 2009 at 4:38 am
This is the PERFECT drama, from cinematography to acting, writing, plot.
It’s a period piece that can extend across cultures. I’m not surprised it didn’t get higher rating. But as soon as I watch it, I am hooked.
I would place this drama on par with Potato Boy and Jumong.
January 9th, 2009 at 2:36 am
Congratulations to Moon Geum Young for being the youngest recepient of the Top Excellence 2008 Acting Award for this drama.
February 7th, 2009 at 6:48 am

February 16th, 2009 at 12:17 pm
One of the best dramas ever. Beautifully portrays the teacher-student relationship. Very suspenseful. Great atmosphere and pace. Interesting characters. Vivid images. Intriguing storylines.
February 16th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
This is a good drama. 🙂
It is a little bit of everything. Drama, suspense, comedy, love story, etc. etc.
Moon Geun Young is funny. She’s a young actress but definitely good. Not all actors are gifted in portraying roles in comedy. LOL! But this slip of a girl could. She had me laughing on that episode where she was taking a bath and the suddenly park shin barged in. LOL!!! And she had me crying when she was so distraught over the death of her hyung.
Park Shin Yang — love this guy! He’s is such a good actor. Comedy, he can carry as well. While watching this drama, you could actually feel his struggle when he thought he was falling in live with a boy!!! Goodness! the stress that he was under every time he wanted to protect Moon Geun Young. He’ll do anything he could to make her start painting again, and in the live again, after the death of her brother. You would want to comfort him and tell him that everything’s going to be fine.
Good portrayal of life in general and the struggles that one has to face in life. It’s a battle of good and evil. And that evil thoughts and deeds never goes unpunished.
Its a film worth watching. 🙂
February 28th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Really great drama!!
“She’s my disciple,
She’s my teacher,
She’s my friend,
and she’s my lover”
March 28th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
This is my best korean drama I have seen so far. I like Moon Geun Young, a talented actress, with big, bright and captivating pair of eyes. She is able to portray her role well, being cheeky and also is caring and gentle as well. The drama itself is just like a Master Piece of Art.
March 29th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
terribly good drama
it potrays us on how romantic life could be, and how beautiful love is (certain feelings are hard to put into words and i’m in blank state on how to convey my feelings)
in this, we’re able to appreciate arts; the numerous drawings with the souls and emotions pours in it, and of course, the drama itself!
seriously, i do find love will just come, just like that, despite the age and distances… being together or not.. once it is carved on your heart, it’ll be there, no matter what
that’s my point of view.. 😉
no more talking, just click and watch this movies
April 12th, 2009 at 10:04 am
what is the ending of this drama?
May 7th, 2009 at 4:29 am
I hate watching period dramas n thought this is gonna be another one boring one but to my surprise its a real great one I have watched so far. The cast was fantastic. They really did a great job. Park, Moon and Bae I love all three.
June 20th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Both Moon & Park have perfect performance here. Park is always good. Two thumbs up for Moon.
July 26th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
i’m totally hooked with this drama, i dont think this will be aired in my country. No one will dare because of the censors here or if they will, they will probably cut vital scenes of YB and JH. I like JH and kudos to the cast especially MCW she’s very good when it comes to portraying the character of a courtesan. I love the conflict bet YB and the other artist and the love given to YB by her fellow classmate and considered older brother. Congrats to them and to MGY for her awards and MCW also.
July 27th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
THERE.
MUST.
BE.
A.
SEQUEL.
I honestly don’t understand why this isn’t more popular. Hmph. Gotta love Moon Geun Young. Before, I was extremely bored of girls dressing as boys, but I was fine with it – or should I say ecstatic? 🙂 – in this movie. If there isn’t a sequel, I’ll… do something. Okay, I’m not making a difference. Whatever. Anyway, I love the plot and the cast and the characters and everything. Awesome drama.
July 29th, 2009 at 3:14 am

Moon Geun Young is cute in her traditional female dress.
And the drama is good too.
September 12th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
Moon Geun Young is cute & I love Park Shin Yang!
Beautifully written! This is definitely one of my favourite korean drama. It would be even better if Hong Do & Yun Bok could be together at the end….
September 13th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
I Love YB VS JH very much!!
Love 2 Moon. Good acting.
Moon Geun Young & Moon chae won very Cute!
September 15th, 2009 at 4:58 am
to park shing yang i’m meriem from algeria i really have long tiame that i haven’t seen an actor who’s reprisants
September 17th, 2009 at 3:43 am
to park shin yang:it’s a very long time that i haven’t seen an actor represants his physical faculties and i gongratulate you for that you deserve to call you real actor and i really like you’r way to expres you’r immotion, and for moon geun young:you make me cry alot and that’s meen that you succeful in you’r act and the way to expres you’r feeling too i love it very much, you let me feel what yoon boog feel i love you to much and i hope you all the best you two in you’r domen, but there’s somthing that it make’s me angry why did the and storry was sad like that?
September 17th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I LOVE THIS DRAMA VERY MUCH!! Moon geun young is such an excellent actress! She can potray her role as Yoonbok so well and it felt so real. She really look like a cute kiddy boy^^ Park shin yang is really a great actor too! I like how he was been protective of his disciple and i like the friendship bond between them.
i also love YB x JH. It felt a real love.
The show is just so beautiful. It gave me a different feeling watching, really different from other dramas I watched. Why didn’t it score higher? Maybe Koreans are quite conservative as this drama was kinda a big step. And perhaps the youngs are not interested in traditions. I’m not a fan of period dramas but this one is really good!!
I’m not quite pelased with the ending though. It was sad! Why did the ending has to be this way! Because of that ending, I feel like wanting more of it and hope for TPOW PART 2!
September 28th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Congratuation for MOON Geun Young in get a award.
September 29th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
I felt lost when Yun Bok left Hong Do abruptly in the end. Why Why Why????
I really WISH Yun Bok and Hong Do to be reunited physically!!! Though in their hearts… they had never left each other at all!
Excellent chemistry btw the two! How about a modern, comedy version of this series??
October 18th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
Just finished this series. A year late (but better than never at all) but then I’m not very fond of the modern Korean dramas, I prefered historical period dramas but tend to lag behind in news of the latest.
In any case, Painter of the Wind is an excellent drama. Good points for story execution, cast and music. The relationship is well played among the major 3 : Hong-do, Yun-bok and Jeong Hyang. Good injection of humour too. I still found myself chuckling over the funny bits despite viewing more than 5 times. Heh.
I echo the sentiments of the other posters : ending is unsatisfactory. It felt unfinished. When I first saw the beginning, I went “Oh crap, lousy ending, thanks alot for the advance warning!” Lol. But still, I wanted to find out how he lost her so I went on watching. I’m definitely hoping there will be a sequel with the same major 2 actors.
October 18th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
P.S. Oops, on the other hand, perhaps no sequel at all? o.O I forgot PSY is banned from the tv networks. Shucks …. now that’s dumb of them. x.x
October 22nd, 2009 at 12:49 pm
I’ve watched a lot of Krean drama but “Painter of the wind ” is the only one made a good impression on me.
Based on the best seller ,Lee Eun Young -the screenwriter succeeded in his/her writing .The Director made a good casting and the most important thing is the wonderful action of Moon Geun Young .She was very very successful in acting a famous artist SYB with her ” teenboy ” face.
As Lee Eun Young said the relation between SYB -Joeng Hyang and SYB -KHD is real and genuine .SYB is very reluctant to let one of 2 go away. Finally , the sreenwriter had to close one relation to open the other : SYB-KHD.
However , I wonder which love is still left in the audience’s mind ?
One more reason led to the success of this drama is the wonderful melody with the singers’ attracting voices.
However , the unhappy end made us unsatisfied but it’s better for 3 poor people ( SYB-JH-KHD) in this drama .
Because of Painter of the wind, SYB fimally went away !!!
October 31st, 2009 at 6:29 pm
why she left in the end??? so sad… TT
November 12th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Great actress like MGY, excellent actor like PSY and BSB the handsome gorgeous king makes this historical drama a fantastic one to watch. Keep up the good work guys!
November 27th, 2009 at 3:38 pm

February 14th, 2010 at 12:33 am

April 2nd, 2010 at 4:59 pm
I love this drama its has a very beautiful story… and the painting stuff is so beautifull…the actors also played thier character very well…especially moon and and the guy who played dan won i mean shes young and the guy is too old for her and they have to show that they love each other in a way.. even though the contact to each other was not shown too much they still give the feeling that they love each other..konde its kinda weird acting sweet to a person whose older than you and your young…. very good acting…
im not pleased at the ending why does it have to end like that… it felt unfinished they didn’t even show wat happen to does governor (watever u call them) and i don’t like how they seperate…
April 2nd, 2010 at 7:09 pm
I really like this movie.
It’s more different from the others Korean Movie. It’s really excelent drama.
I love it so much.
the relationship between SYB and KHD so srong, and I can fell it is real.
and l like how they make a picture.
but, I don’t like the ending. Why SYB must leave ?
I really hope that they make painter of the wind 2, with the happy ending.

SYB and joon hyang!!!!!!! rules!!!!! even syb said he loved joonhyang in one of the last episodes.the relation between SYB and kim was merely father and his child. altho kim loved SYB. i want joonhyang and SYB get together ….i could see the love when syb and joonhyang;s eyes met.
maybe syb left kim to find joonhyang ?????? only God and the writer to know hhahahahahhaa can someone write to the writer to make the sequel?????

i never interested to korean movie bfore but this one really got me !!! especially joonhyang WOW she was awesome when syb asked her to be half nak3d so he could paint her….hhmmmmmm really beautiful
i dont know why people seemed to like syb with khd ……i didnt see any romance or chemistry in their eyes but its vice versa with joonhyang..
i think syb left to find joonhyang

The story is excellent and fresh from the box…its beyond the ordinaire…

After I watched Painter Of The Wind I started to like and valuing the Art Painting or basically painter, POTW is an another excellent Korean production drama. It’s incredible and truly beautiful. The cast, the story, cinematography, soundtrack and the painting itself…..so into in my heart

Very nice drama! I have watched this quite a long time. In fact, I’ve got a copy of this.
All I can say in this drama is that, It is very nice. Nice story and perfect selection of actors/actresses. Moon Geun-young portrays her character well. She really gave her best shot. Her part is quite difficult. But she manage to do it excellently. Park Shin-yang, in the other hand did his best shot as well. I gave 5 stars to both of them.
On the contrary, one thing that I feel that I don’t like is its ending. I prefer that Moon Geun-young should return to become a girl. Not being pretending to be a boy. And she should have had a love affair. And speaker of love affair, i woul like to match her with her adopted brother. I think they fit to each other. Eversince from the start, her adopted brother has developed a feelings for her. But unfortunately not being told to her because he respected their bother to “brother” relationship. It’s so upsetting that he died. I really feel pity for his death. He does everything for Geun-young.
In general, the drama is fantastic!

i love this drama i watch it so closely just like a student who revise his or her lesson very thoughtfully . i enjoyed watching it for the second time than i did in the first time ,because now i know many korean words that helped me to enjoy watching this unique drama . what amazes me in this drama is the way that shows the greatness of the koreans in those days , theres chemistry ,physics and even biology represnted in the manufacturing beautiful colors from natural elements and how they react with and change color with certain substances .physics is shown in the movement of things affected by the prusser of the wind and so on .. i ll cherish this beautiful drama in my heart and many thanks to the beautiful actress who acted the role of shin yun bok and made a legend of this creative artist .. please keep on airing such distinguished drama

The main character had no redeeming qualities to speak of, it was difficult to warm up to her. She seemed to be inept at responding believably, to events unfolding around her. And left a trail of destruction in her wake. It suggests to me the writers were brain-dead.
This rates near the bottom of my least liked KDrama.

I’ll take off the other glove now and add; the sapphic subtext was one of the things that irked me about this production. And the moral turpitude I guess comes from its principal author, made it difficult to endure. There was contrived sentimentality but little to back it. There were several moments of; “Wha the..?”, “Huh?” and “Aishh!”.
I came to KDrama’s recently, and have found a source of wonderful entertainment I can recommend to family and friends. We get mostly hollywood and local shows. But I can honestly say KDramas are better in that, they don’t assault you with cynicism and gratuitous sex. Oh and that misguided notion encouraging you to go change the world into something better. That would be like encouraging the inmates to take control of the correctional facility and fashion it to serve their whim.
This show, did not do it for me but I learned a few more korean words ..hehe.

Lorem, geez, you recently discovered Korean series and already felt to be such an authority to give this really insightful comment. Sapphic? Did you notice that the series is in period style. Did you make the effort to do a little series on this? No? Pitiful. You would have discovered that this is an award winning novel converted into a drama series. The lead actress is ‘inept at responding believably’, would you know of a better Korean actress who could do better? Have you seen her other works? How many Korean series / movies have you seen so far? You are watching these to improve your Korean? Big words coming from a newbie like you are irresponsible and not constructive at all. It would do you a little good to extend your experience before feigning authority. If not, then leave the comment section for those who know what the heck are they talking about.

A drama which brought me closer to Koreans! Thanks to the Korean embassy in Ethiopia, we watched it through our National TV, ETV. And now I am addicted to Korean dramas on KBS & Arirang TV and enjoying.

This drama is so so
November 29th, 2012 at 6:31 pm
The film is wonderful except for the main actress. She is not believable amasquerading as a boy. She is puny and looks like a girl dressed as a boy.
November 29th, 2012 at 6:35 pm
I am watching this drama because I like Park Shing Young. He is a great actor and sexy too even tough he has to wear the traditional clothes and that funky silly hat.
December 1st, 2012 at 3:33 am
The dean of the art school is alwsys the same mesn guy in every traditional drama. Se guy always??? He must be the only actor they can hire to play all these mean parts. How can that be? He plays it so well that I can hate the old goat in every drama!!
December 1st, 2012 at 3:39 am
This is a very beautiful story of the history of Korea and is the best Korean traditional drama I have seen so far!!!!!

Hello, I am in Nigeria. I totally love the series. I stumbled on a few episodes. For those saying that d main character did not play the role of a boy well,I did not know d character was a girl even after watching many episodes.
Please, how can I get the full series? Please can anyone assist me?
December 22nd, 2012 at 3:51 pm
@whinny yes i do agree with you. Main actress portrayed her role well. I forgot YB is a girl. That’s why moon moon got best couple award 🙂
@eli redondo are you kidding me? I think there’s no way to say it’s great drama without main characters? LOL it’s the funniest joke in the world 🙂

i like this drama.honestly speaking i dont quite like moon geun young but she did an excellent job in this drama.of all the dramas that i have seen where females pretend to be males, this is the best.the plot was good and so was the chemistry.i’m not a big fan of huge age difference in relationships but this one worked.i didn’t understand her relationship with jeon yang bcoz at first it looked she really loved her and also am not happy with the ending.it left me with so many unanswered questions.but all in all worth watching.

@Lorem You’re a homophobic bigot. And “misguided notion encouraging you to go change the world into something better. That would be like encouraging the inmates to take control of the correctional facility and fashion it to serve their whim”? Really? Would that REALLY be like encouraging inmates to control a correctional facility?

Came to this show while checking out MCW’s previous roles… she is one of my absolute favourites! (I am a recent KDrama devotee).
I loved this throughout, the depth of emotion portrayed… just beautiful! I have a new Moon to follow now…
KDrama is the gift that just keeps on giving…!
