@240 Seyra, @246 Ok Ok Ok
As pointed out by KDaddict @243 – poise, grace n elegance are qualities portrayed by young Wol. Having viewed HGI’s performance in ep7-8, I get impression that she does not seem to possess these qualities.

I have not seen HGI in other dramas, but if she is that good an actress with extensive experience, then she should be able to step into the character of Wol as follow up from the young Wol.

I am not a fan of NGR nor of 49 days. I thought of her only because her image may fit Wol. I wasn’t that impressed with NGR’s performance in 49 days, but given HGI’s lackluster performance in Ep7-8, may be even NGR could do better if she can assimilate into the role.

As for loss of memory of what she has learnt in past, I’m pretty sure Wol has relearnt those as she has lots of books in her room (which was remarked by Lee Hwon when Wol brought him to her place after she found him lost in the fog).

Anyhow, we viewers have different satisfactions of HGI’s performance due to different expectations and perceptions. I am only expressing my opinion and you can rightfully disagree with me since you feel otherwise.

Hopefully, HGI gets better from ep 9 onwards…

    KDaddict Says:

I’m sad to read your comment.
You think Viewing is only the right of ppl who love the performance of every actor in a show?
PPl aren’t allowed to love some performance and not others in a show? Why?
If as u suggest, only those who love everyone n everything in a show are allowed to watch, then there’s be few viewers!
You think A forum such as this one is reserved for ppl who says: Oppa, Unnie, I love you! I love this show to pieces! What is interesting abt such a thread?
You must be new to this or else very young.
FYI, Open forums exist for ppl to voice their opinion. Good discussion is when ppl have diff opinions, express them peacefully, n discuss them in a friendly manner, which is what is happening here.

    KDaddict Says:

    @kdviewer-238, 251,
    I agree w every word.
Whatever her name, YW/Wol is supposed to be a v intelligent/intellectual girl. The collection of books n the Go set in her room r evidence of that. As the saying goes, Eyes r windows to the soul. Young as KimYJ is, she looks intelligent, by the light in her eyes. Ditto for KSH. I never disliked HGI, but her eyes r just opened so wide here they scream “Plastic surgery”! Now I have no problem w PS in actors, as long as the result is pleasant.
2 pages back, in #205, soon as I watched ep 7, I asked who would be a better Wol. U know, I honestly don’t know.
As for NamGR, I loved her in Life is Beautiful (abt a family on Jeju), but then she got sooo much PS that she looked like a doll more than a person in 49D!
Hope to see more of u here n on other threads. What else u watching?

    agave Says:

I don’t have a problem with the acting abilities of any of the actors, but I am concerned that the main focus on this series is on the relationship between Hwon and Yeon Woo/Wol. I have a problem with this because the writers have made it clear, over and over and over, that these 2 people are fated to be together no matter what. Unfortunately, I don’t find Yeon Woo/Wol and Hwon’s relationship as interesting as I find their relationships with other characters.

For instance, after I watch each episode I usually find myself wanting to re-watch their scenes with other characters more than I want to watch them in scenes together. For future episodes, I would like to see the writers flesh out the other characters more and I want Jung Il Woo’s character, Yang-myung, to have a storyline that doesn’t focus solely on the character’s obsession with Yeon Woo/Wol.

I’ve read posts by others who noted how strange it was that we didn’t get to see YM and YW interact much when they were children and that we also never got to see how they first met. I think this is the first drama I’ve ever watched where the male second lead was at such a disadvantage in a so-called triangle. Not only is he going up against a pair that is fated to be together, but the woman he loves barely knows he exists. That’s too pathetic to keep me watching this until the end unless they give YM his own storyline, where this romance angle is not the focus for the character.

I’ve watched other dramas where I didn’t particularly care about the OTP, but still enjoyed the drama, so hope I get the same final result with this drama. The key will be to give the other characters more developed and interesting lives outside of the romance of the OTP.

    Dear @admin,
I think Charlie is referring to the “column” that shows how many ppl like this site on facebook, tweet, etc. It is a column w 5 boxes., eg. rt now they read: 701, f-Like, 67, Tweet, 7, +1. When we read this page on iPad or iPhone, the column obscures part of the comments. Rather annoying n distracting.

I never finished watching Dream High when I was broadcasted 12 months ago, becos I found the beginning slow going, n the female char (Hae-Yi) surly. After falling in love w KSH here, I went back n rewatched the whole thing. Wow! Am I surprised! How can he have changed so much in 12 months? In DH, he looks like a kid. In METS, he looks like a man. And of course his acting ability too has exploded! Such a joy to watch!

    @250 admin,
Thank you for your attention, but I don’t think I can post screen shot here. If you leave me an email address, I’d be happy to send your the screen shot. The little screen has “Like”, “Tweet” and 4 numbers in a column. I think it started to appear since the beginning of 2012.

Thank you so much for your immediate action. My last comment was a little slow; I should have finished reading all the posts first. I hope you can disable completely. As KDaddict had pointed out, it covers some comment text session as well, even on my laptop. I don’t think these numbers help viewers much.

    admin Says:

There is no exact english title for this drama.

If we follow the official website http://www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/sunNmoon/, then the title should be ‘the sun and the moon’.

We use this title because it widely use in internet.

And that’s why we also name the title also known as: The Sun and The Moon / The Moon Embracing the Sun. (Please read the article on above)

    OK OK OK Says:

Poise, grace & elegance are qualities of young wol. Don’t forget Kim Yoo Jung wears beautiful expensive silky Hanbok in this drama & living comfortably with her rich family (acting skills aside)

If HGI wears the same beautiful Hanbok makes of expensive material, I can guarantee that she will look as elegant and graceful as young wol. I did see HGI gracefulness & elegant in ep 7 & 8. 😉

Kim Yoo Jung acted as young Dong Yi who is always on the run, no silky expensive “hangbok”. It never came across my mind that she is elegant, graceful and poise in that drama?

This drama is so good. I cant wait for episode 9 omg. I already downloaded the ost for it 😀

  23. 273
    KDaddict Says:

    Hi, Yeoreobun,,
First, MBC is “discussing” a 4-ep extension for METS, due to its hi ratings no doubt. Not yet confirmed but most likely, becos SBS n KBS2 have announced 4-ep extensions for Take care of us Captain n Wild Romance respectively, so as to avoid having their upcoming dramas be creamed by METS.

Second, Reaction to HanGI as Wol the world over can be divided into 3 types:
Those who like it n think she is pretty, has doe eyes, n/or have liked her fr previous dramas; those who find her acting lacking n dislike her “bug-eyes”; n those who r neutral. It’s just a controversial casting. I don’t think we’ll come to a consensus, nor do we have to. As individuals, we like n watch a drama for various reasons. As long as we watch n like METS as a whole, we are all winners!
Third, upcoming eps will show LOTS of sweet tender funny moments between our OTP. That, I’m sure will cause lots of ppl to forget all abt the casting, n just be bowled over by the romance!
    Happy viewing, everyone!

  24. 274
    KDaddict Says:

    @OK OK OK-270,
If grace, poise, elegance, n an intelligent look can be had w a change of clothing, they wouldn’t be worth mentioning.
When we said that Kim YJ has it, it doesn’t imply that we think HanGI doesn’t. It’s just that to find them in a 12 yr old is such a pleasant surprise. I would pretty much assume that HGI has them, becos a leading lady having them should be a given.
As for KimYJ not showing them in Dong Yi, her char in Dong Yi was NOT a member of the noble class. If she had projected those qualities while acting as sb of humble status, that’d be v lousy acting.
I’m not a HGI hater. I liked her in Witch Amusement just fine. I haven’t watch those other shows of hers that u mentioned. I’m sure she is a fine actress, or else she wouldn’t have the status that she has. I do think that for every actor, there r some roles that suit them better than some others. I also have confidence that she’ll grow into her role in the upcoming eps when the OTP can play lovey-dovey. 😉

    OK OK OK Says:

    @ 274 KDaddict

    Absolutely agree with you.

My view @270 is response to comment 251 Kdviewer……

    Seyra Says:

I’m pretty sure most of us have seen KYJ’s other dramas. I saw her in Powerful Opponents with Chae Rim for the first time and was greatly wowed by her sweetness and maturity even then. She is naturally graceful and possesses very fine qualities like poise and wit. I knew then that this little girl will go far and she has proven time and again that she has plenty of talent as an actress. Loved her in Gumiho and Iljimae. She even did a kissing scene with Lee Min Ho (Prince Yang Myung) at that tender age! (But looking at it closely, don’t think their lips touched 😉  )The role as Yeon Woo suits her to a T and that’s why she did very well. And being such a fine actress as she, she’ll do well in other roles as well. Same goes for Yeo Jin Goo. His first drama for me was Queen of the Game and he was cute as a button and his later dramas as in Giant, Warrior BDS and Iljimae were all winners! Can’t get enough of them? Click on links to see them again if you haven’t already:

    @253 KDaddict,

Thanks. Good to know we share similar views.
I have not seen many kdramas, and started on METS during the CNY holidays out of mere curiosity as to how JIW would look in historical costume (I have seen JIW only in 49D. Have not seen his other dramas). Because of the good acting of the young cast, I finished viewing the 1st 6 eps within 2 nights, and eps 7-8 over last weekend when the eng subs were up.
Ep 9 will be broadcasted tomor night, but shall watch it only when the eng subs are up.

Besides METS, I am watching IRIS – 4 eps broadcasted each sat night over at KBS World. Watching the last 4 eps this coming sat. You must have seen IRIS when it was broadcasted in 2009.

@Liliy228 & OK OK OK Glad you both liked it. Have you read the novel yet? I read the translated one and wowee, it’s pretty good especially the parts about the two leads and I sure hope that the drama will include some of the scenes as well. Verryy romantic and lots of skin-ship too 😉

I repeat epissodes 7 & 8 twice. Then realised Han Ga In is quite smart. She did not use her “witch” power to know the character of the rude soldier (the one who “block” commoners from getting near the king who is passing by the village” She analyze the soldier just by looking at his appearance, attire & breath…… :))

I like most is Yeo Jin Goo & Kim Hyun Jun

    Moon & Sun………………. fighting !!!!

  36. 286
    KDaddict Says:

The author of the novel, Jung Eun Gwol, has come up w a formula to modernize sagueks to attract a young audience, by featuring v young n beautiful antagonists, straight fwd story lines w little angst, easy to resolve conflict, the existence of bromance, and a big romance at the center. I don’t know how fleshed out the other young male chars will get, but am sure that they’ll hard sell the romance w a royal chance, soulful stares n stolen hugs n kisses. This is such a winning strategy as it’ll cover up many flaws, whether in casting, in writing, etc.

The 1st couple eps of Padam2, with their time-lapses, are indeed confusing n off putting. I wrote some recaps for the 1st few eps on that thread. If curious, you might take a look. Some ppl r worried abt a sad ending, but I’m optimistic. But it’ll end next week anyhow, so to be safe, u can wait till then b4 u start on it again. 😉

No I have not read the novel. Where can i read it? Maybe you may want to provide the links. Many thanks in advance 🙂

Actually, if you did not provide those links in 277 & 278, I don’t think I will search for them.

    1) Feel guilty spending so much time on korean dramas. 😉
    2) Many dramas nowadays have wrong matching of leads that I gave up some
    3) Luckily I like both the male and female lead here, if not I have to miss another 1 great drama. Happy Watching 🙂

@OK OK OK Translation of the novel is still on-going and latest is at Chapter 6. Find http://belectricground.com/ . The language is beautiful and easy to follow. Random chapters especially those re Wol/Lee Hwon are found in forums in Soompi. From what I have read so far, I must confess that the novel is so much more captivating and it helped me understand many things not explained in the drama. For one thing, I appreciate HGI’s acting even more and her interpretation of YW’s role 😉
Understand perfectly your reasons on KDs. They are addictive but my focus is on this drama only because I truly am in love with everything about it. First time I actually scour the internet for more info on a drama!

Ah, so u r new! No wonder I haven’t seen u b4. Welcome to KD-land! Very perceptive of you to notice so much as a rookie. I remember not knowing what to make of the first shows I watched!
JIW has a wonderful saguek called Return of Iljimae. A pleasure for those who like JIW!
Yes, I saw IRIS when it came out. I really like LeeBH. It is similar to Athena n Fugitive Plan B: slick production, but not a lot of soul. It’s actually quite difficult to find a drama in which both the leads, n the supporting roles r cast well, the script is intelligent n touching, etc. Have to suffer many lousy shows b4 finding a gem!

    Spoiler Alert:
    Ep 9 Recap:
I’m afraid there isn’t much screen time showing the OTP together in this ep. The scene that we saw at the end of ep 8 when he pinned her down on his bedding was just a teaser. Turns out that he just asks who she is, why she is there, n then in anger (frustration), asks that she be taken away fr his chambers.
That puts her in danger, with the professor, who blames her for upsetting the king, n for touching him on the forehead.
Woon says to Hwon: If I tell you who she is, she will not live long; if I don’t tell you who she is, her life will not be right. But off camera, he must have talked some sense into the king, whose order to have Wol be continued as a talisman saves her from imminent danger at the hands of the damned prof.
She is free to go, n goes to the paper shop where she bought the paper to write Hwon years ago. Her memory seems to come to her in bits n pieces. Suddenly she remembers back to days ago when YangM asked her to wait for him at the green house. Just at that moment, YM wanders into the paper shop, n she starts to thank him for saving her. In the midst of the conversation, a fragment of a conversation they had years ago comes back to her. It is when YM asked if she wanted to run away fr being a royal consort, n that he’d run away w her if she wished. She asks YM if he is part of the royal family. That gives him tremendous hope. before he can react, she leaves the paper shop. On her way out, she literally bumps into her own mother, who is there w MinH to buy paper for Yeom. That too is a teaser for with Wol’s head n face covered by her jacket, neither one sees the other.
That night, Wol is brought to the king again. In her room, BK is biting her nails in anxiety, becos she just dreamt of YW, n that spooks her. She has also been having a bad feeling abt the young sha-woman who is used as a talisman. She goes to the king’s quarters, hears the king’s voice talking. Hyung Sun tries to stop her, but she insists. With trembling hands, she opens the inner set of doors to his chambers….she looks in on the two of them, standing close to each other. End. Thus our OTP don’t get to spend any time together all ep, until at the end, when it is yet another cliff hanger! Boo!
