Suddenly, her father marries a woman rich enough to own a building. Meanwhile, Jung Eun Tae (Lee Sang Woo) works as a doctor. Like the setup of this drama. Episodes 1+2 is good. Yes!!

  7. 7
    Hyeongnam Says:

Just finished episode 2. The theme music is so wrong. None of these characters with the exception of the decrepit old man in the wheelchair would have grown up during the “swing” era of music let alone know what it is for heavens sakes. It’s like a decision the PD made after watching the “Entertainer” or some 30’s or 40’s black and white flick. It doesn’t connect at any level with regards to the context of the drama.

    Hyeongnam Says:

The cast is good. The two leads are okay. I like Sang Woo and his character in this drama but I’m not sure he’s the right guy to play opposite Ji Hye. I know it will all work because they’re both experienced actors.

I would have picked So Ji Sub or Jo In Sung or Jo Hyun Jae to play opposite Ji Hye.

    annmasae Says:

@Hyeongnam you are so right that other actors would have been better because the character doesn’t really match Sang Wo’s personality. Still I hope the drama has good success since I like both Sang Wo and Ji Hye. Watched Episode 1 but the story jumped all over the place. I will keep watching and hope the script gets better.

Early days, hence should give the characters time for development and chemistry…like the two leads

Enjoying the drama more now. The story is getting better and is much improved from the first episode. So glad to see Ji Hye acting again. Glad she left her husband when he tried to send their daughter abroad. Hope her life improves and she becomes happier.

    Hyeongnam Says:

I’m enjoying the drama too but also distracted by the theme music. It’s like the silent fart wafting in while you’re enjoying a delicious meal.

I have said it before; the music of the Jazz Swing era (1920’s-1940’s) is out of place as the older characters of the drama were in their youth during the 70’s—three decades later. And the drama’s backdrop bears no semblance whatsoever to the sense of abandon evident in the music they’ve adopted.

That said, I will continue with this drama. I don’t expect it will be as good as “Father is Strange” or “My Golden Life” and certainly is not on the same level as “My Mister”—production-wise.

    USA Says:

@ Ann – I too like this drama more and more. It was very hard to watch in the beginning – very confusing and not smooth at all. Enjoying Park Hyo Sup and Lee Mi Yun characters, especially Lee Mi Yun is different & refreshing. Looking forward watching this one.

@ Hye – Do you think the Jazz era of the 1920-30s in the US was exported to Seoul in the 20-30s? Korea was under the Japanese rule from 1910 until the end of the WWII in 1945. Koreans lived in hunger as rice was rationed & many young wo/men didn’t have enough to eat. American culture didn’t enter Korea until after the Korean War. Wonder how jazz got to Seoul in the 20s/30s…

  14. 14
    USA Says:

@ Hye – sorry I misread your comment about the music, please ignore. Do remember an old Korean lady told me that song Besa Me Mucho was very popular in Seoul during the mid-1960s, and it was a 1944 movie song in the US. Maybe the American jazz was slow getting to Korea per these Korean director/writer? 🙂

This is a really a good drama. Can’t wait for the next episode!

    Hyeongnam Says:

I like Mi Yeon (as spoken in the drama) or Mi Yun as it is written here. Wonderful character.
