Cho Min Soo and Cho Tae Kwan (DOTS’ Daniel Spencer, yes, the Mr. Fixit guy) in a drama together! This is a gift from the gods I will cherish. I don’t even care if the drama is bad. The visuals will be great!

    Red Says:

Coolbeans, yes! Choi Min Soo is such a good actor…and that voice melts. Cho Tae Kwan did and great job in DotS and is easy on the eyes.
I am looking forward to them in a comedy.

    UEeOne Says:

When first i read the synopsis i’m bit worried how him will show to other as saeed faad ali. Ok pass. Whatever their religion is they name is like that. But the female in episode one wear full shawl not showing their hair but wear split skirt is really not suitable. Is it non muslim? If non muslim please open your shawl. Other will confius about this. Muslim people is not like that. Peace. Sorry for my bad in english.

    IrisFl0wer Says:

Hi; I like korean drama the most and I respect your ways in presenting your culture .. but in this drama you reflect Muslims in specific.. and Arab in general in so bad and far way… which means that you really don’t know them in reality … I hope you learn more about other cultures before you produce any drama about them in the future… regards

    K lover Says:

I have heard that Korea has the fastest Internet
1 hour or less enough to see the culture and religion of the Arabs
I’m not angry but in fact this made me sad cuz some people will believe this shit Before you start working you had to search more. We are not like that. You never show the truth. Stop these lies pls

  8. 8
    Mokoduk Says:

@K lover. Do you mean that people would watch this and think that some Arabs are oil-rich? I don’t understand your grievance. It’s not like these dramas reflect the real Korean culture either. These are not documentaries.

  9. 9
    Mi Poong Says:

The Muslim commenters complaining their culture is misrepresented in this drama. I have to agree. But the misrepresentation isn’t in a bad way surely.

There are no jihadists shown cutting off the body parts of non-Muslims. Nor did we see gays tossed off roofs or an adulterer being stoned. All actual “sharia” forms of punishment.

Perhaps if such things were shown there might not have been any complaints from our Muslim commenters.

    Susy indrayanti Says:

Don’t use islam for your drama.i love korean drama.but if u don’t know anything.don’t use islam.

    123choubidou Says:

  13. 13
    Mokoduk Says:

@123choubidou Totally agree with you. Anyway, Islam didn’t feature in the drama. What was presented of the religion was brief and incidental like a street fixture. To my recollection, the words Islam and Muslim were not even mentioned, just a shot of people with their butts in the air muttering “Our god is greater than your god” in Arabic (the correct translation not the literal translation)

Like you said if it was about Christianity nothing would have been said. Christians tend to be more mature.

I agree with @Mi Poong. Had the drama shown a woman being stoned and a gay or two being thrown off a roof it’d be a more accurate representation of the religion and culture. No complaints probably, but who knows.

  14. 14
    Susy indrayanti Says:

I hope all muslim in the world will never see the actrs in this drama ever again.this drama is so fu$%&

  32. 32
    agade Says:

Out of all the problems in the world, why South Korea MBC choose to ‘criticise’ the Muslims deviant social and political life in one country instead of putting more weight of thought on the Western military offense in some other Muslims countries. After all, you just need to ask, does South Korea’s image as the most progressive nation at the moment worth demonizing some Muslims?

  33. 33
    duygu Says:

    Boycott MBC

  34. 34
    Meyan Says:

I won’t watch it.. ini jelas-jelas penistaan agama..

  35. 35
    Vega Says:

im moslem, and ok fine if most of you, or non moslem said it is fiction and all the moslem are immature and too sensitive about the veil and the woman on scren, but please, check on 3th or 4th episode, when the assistant act like he is pray in mosque, its mean his caracter as moslem, but then he just go in the middle of pray, it really insulting moslem and our relegion. moslem isnt like that.

  36. 36
    Red Says:

This is a comedy. It is making fun of everyone including Koreans and the West. It’s time to understand that being offended means turn the channel. No one doesn’t know that the hijab isn’t worn by women who show the rest of themselves. NO one thinks this is a serious depiction of an Islamic lifestyle or anything else. It’s a comedy.
Whine away if you want, but it is important to learn to laugh at yourselves.
Personally, I think it is hilarious.

  37. 37
    Dramaclub Says:

I see the point of those who will boycott this show. They don’t poke fun at their religion and anyone who does is seen as being disrespectful. That’s the belief in their culture. The creators of this drama have different beliefs and may live in a different culture where poking fun at religion, all kinds of religion, is considered part of comedy. This type of comedy is acceptable in S. Korea and many other nations that allow freedom of speech. That is the freedom to express one’s ideas without fear of persecution even if those ideas conflict with the beliefs of another person or group. The expression can be in the form of jokes, advertising, films, tv shows, art, news articles, books, plays and many other forms. The best option for those who are offended is to turn it off, ignore it, boycott and send letter/emails to MBC expressing displeasure. The world is too large. Korean entertainment executives can’t dictate what happens on television in Muslim countries. Those in Muslim countries can’t dictate the subject matter, costumes or storyline for a drama made on the other side of the world. Muslims in Korea have the same options. They can even picket the station because they have freedom of speech which allows them to do so. Those who continue to watch will not believe this is how Muslims behave because this is clearly a comedy and not a documentary.

  39. 39
    park jun sung Says:

Oh, korean (I mean people behind the TV production), i dont know how you build a story of kdrama. well, it’s not the 1st time they make mistake, they create story without survey. in drama “Whisper”, they called “Sabah City” (a city in Malaysia) is an Indonesia city, and now they represented a hijab women using Bikini, in the middle east? WHATT??? okay, maybe they didn’t mean to do that (probably), but come on, i think its a general culture… Midlle East, there is Mosque in the poster (check it out), and woman wearing hijab + Bikini, WTF, are you fool???? I’m not from Malaysia, but i think Sabah is quite famous city in Asia, and they think it’s on Indonesia. They never learn how to read Asian Maps i guess. Woman in Hijab wear Bikini, in the Middle east. okay, i think they never know what’s muslim look like before.

  40. 40
    su Says:

    the stupidity.. boycott MBC

  41. 41
    M Says:

I think MBC network producers don t see mouslme people in their life at all because they live another planet not to earth😂😂😂😂foolish producres😠😠😠😠.what do you mean by this fool thing????l m sorry for you to insult moslem viewers 😟😟😟viewer who are intresting in korean series!!!???

  42. 42
    Mokoduk Says:

@Alis; If you’re offended don’t watch the show. A character wearing shoes just inside a Mosque should be regarded in the context of the drama. The drama presents him as a belligerent individual. It’s not a political statement. Okay. How hard is that to understand

But if you as a Muslim are going to play the religious vilification card, look to your Quran and the actions of your brethren. Urinating and defecating on Hindu religious icons. The destruction of Christian churches and religious icons. And the Quran exhorting adherents to fight the unbelievers including Jews and Christians till they agree to pay the extortion fee and feel themselves humiliated — (surah 9.29).

    Those are not fictional.

How is it you find the time to critique an anodyne mention of your religion in a fictional drama? Shouldn’t you rally your fellow Muslims together and see how you can stop another Manchester bombing incident. Or do you think nails, nuts and screws tearing into young flesh is perfectly acceptable?

  43. 43
    Life on Mars Says:

At the start of episode 5, MBC makes an apology to the offended saying the drama did not intend to offend and that the story is fictional set in an imaginary country named Bodoantia.

Now to be fair, I should like Muslims to remove the verses that misrepresent and demonise non-Muslims from the Quran. Verses like surah-8:55 which calls us non-Muslims “the vilest of animals”. And in Bukhari-54:524 it says that Muhammad believed rats to be “mutated Jews”. Then the Quran tells Muslims to be compassionate with one another but ruthless to us non-Muslims (infidels).

The list goes on and on of hateful mischaracterizations of non-Muslims. It’s time we demand of them just as they demand from us.

  44. 44
    Memoo Says:

@Life on Mars Says & Mokoduk, you’ve said it well.

  45. 45
    KDnewfan Says:

    Life on Mars,

You quoted the translation from Surah8, verse 55 without reading the whole translation of the surah, and yet you dare to criticize. I beg you to read the whole translation of the surah. The ‘non-muslims’ in that verse refers to the people of the pharaoh who made promises to the muslims and then betrayed the muslims. If the Quran had really called non-muslims as “the vilest of animals”, do you think there will be many non-muslims reverting to Islam?

Please, don’t just pluck a translation here and there and assume the meaning.

You also quoted Hadith Bukhari from Book 54, hadith number 524. I hope you know that there thousands of fake hadiths created to misrepresent and distort Islam.

From what I read in comments above, non of the muslim commenters attack or vilify other religions and yet you dare to use this forum to criticize our religion that you obviously hate out of your misunderstanding of Islam.

  46. 46
    Life on Mars Says:

@KDnewfan “the people of the pharaoh who made promises to the muslims”
Oh . . LIES! LIES! LIES! The last pharoah died 652 years before Muhammad was chased out of Mecca. You lying lump of camel dung.

And the typical “weak hadith” won’t do it either. There are no “fake hadiths”. It is a hadith or it is not. There are weak hadiths and untrusted hadiths. I cited from the most authoritative in Sunni Islam. Sunnis comprise 90% of the world’s Muslim population.

The word “sahih” marks a hadith as trusted. Sunnis regard these six hadiths; Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan Nasai and Jamí Tirmizi as the most authoritative.

You probably know that but decided to spin your lies anyway.

Here is the full Surah 8:55 (and note there is no mention of a pharoah) “Surely the vilest of animals in Allah’s sight are those who disbelieve, then they would not believe.” — (translation by Shakir). From Islam’s perspective, those who “disbelieve” are the non-Muslims.

Most of the Quran’s contents is not about God but is about us non-Muslims and it’s all hate-filled. So, I wish dramas and movies would correctly present Islam as the doctrine of hatred of those who don’t share with Muslims their Islamic beliefs.

  47. 47
    bee Says:

a hijab women using Bikini??? hmm, that’s ridiculous, the drama’s creator team may have watching some american s*x video for reference to make this drama. lmfao

2)Sue and the rest like you ….or me, open your eyes because in this world all we have left is one of the funny movie to make you laugh.
3)I recommend this movie to everyone .ENJOY BECAUSE IS BEAUTIFUL AND LAUGH WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE.

  50. 50
    HallaBaek Says:

Leaving notes to MBC in these comments is live leaving a personal to an idol crush…totally wasted! Better to send a letter and email directly to MBC and their advertisers that affect their income.

This comedy is not some Earth shattering work that will change the perception in ANYONE’s mind about muslims. Those images is all over the news and it is not positive. Killings, stonings, acid on young girls, sexism and suicide bombings are the images that are spread worldwide. So, it appears hypocritical to see people alarmed about this and going to great lengths when very few come out when violence in the name of a higher power is dealt on muslem family members and community members by muslims! That is why it is difficult for me, a non muslim, to take part in it.
More efforts should be made to change reality than to squash fiction in a Korean comedy.
