The synopsis tell too little a story. One too many cooking dramas. Kim Rae Won, why, why a cooking drama? You are much too talented for this.

June 11th, 2008 at 12:02 am
Kim Rae Won was superb in Love Story In Harvard. However, he wasn’t that great in most of his other shows such as Tell Me You Love Me, Attic Cat, Which Star Are You From, etc.
Similarly, I enjoyed watching Nam Sang Mi in Bad Family & Sweet Spy but can’t say much of her role in Time Between Dog & Wolf.
Guess a lot depends on the storyline, the characters & the chemistry between the 2 leads…
June 11th, 2008 at 9:47 am
I am sooooo excited about this drama!! The return of Kim Rae-won to a drama is my fondest wish love, love love him!!! His acting skills continue to improve, this is displayed in the movies that he has done. He is amazing in Sunflower.
Nam Sang-mi is adorable and a good solid actress, she should be very good in the part. More can be read about the drama on Han Cinema, there is an article there dated 6/10/08.
The screenwriters are skilled, Choi Wan-kyu in particular has been responsible for or a part of some really good dramas; Harvard Love Story, Lobbyist, Air City and All In. CAN NOT WAIT!!!
June 12th, 2008 at 2:58 pm

…..keep on watching this good drama again, again and again…the hero n heroin are great….
July 29th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
I saw the first episode and I was not that impressed. If this series is going to be about the pressures of being in the culinary industry and some cooking contest to determine the next top chef, then they better come up with some interesting story lines. The first episode had a standard, we better succeed in impressing others, otherwise we’re failures plot. Plus, there’s barely any women so far. And all the characters seem flat and generic – the seasoned perfectionist veteran, the bumbling yet charismatic newcomer, the jealous experienced chef who feels he should be in charge. Hope it gets better.
August 2nd, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Aarrghhh!!! KRW was the first Korean actor I ever fall in love with.. And Nam Sang Mi had given me very big impression for her role in Sweet Spy. So I really can’t wait to watch this drama. Next year is too long to wait for the drama to reach M’sia! Hope that chemistry between the 2 lead is great…
August 31st, 2008 at 11:29 pm
this series seems great so far.. tho i don’t like the news reporter’s character.. i find her annoying as hell.. especially moments she first appeared -.-”
I don’t understand how ppl say the synopsis is similar to witch yoo hee.. to me when I read it.. sounds nothing like it..
obviously this one deals alot more with the cooking..
the actor is amazing (Kim Rae Won)
didn’t realise he was the same actor as Love story in harvard… ( I could not watch that series, the english killed it and those dodgy american actors zzz) even tho I didn’t finish it, I remember thinking o that actor is great! 😀
September 8th, 2008 at 5:27 pm

September 25th, 2008 at 11:45 am
dennis is so handsome..I want to meet him in person.
I think I’m in love with him
September 28th, 2008 at 8:53 am
I’m not the kind of person that watch drama base on the cast, I more about the storyline. The rare exception to this rule is Kim Rae Won! Every since I watch him in the movie Plum Blossom I been hooked. He a great actor and Hot!. If you every watch any of (Shaw Brothers) martial art movies, you know what I mean when I said that Kim Rae Won remind me of the the the vemon who played the (toad) he was hot also.
Any way back to my review love this drama, Kim Rae Won and Nam Sang Mi played off each other very well, I wish it was more romance between them because the chemistry was great. This was a simple drama but very detail, it didn’t drag it was like watch a short story that was finish by the end of each episode. A most watch drama, the food look del-cious!
October 11th, 2008 at 10:39 am
I recommend to all of u to watch if anyone of them is Kim Rae Won fans. His acting skill has grown immensely and I am very much impressed by his choice of movies or dramas.
There is this scene on this drama on his father death which is a much to watch. The way he delivered the scene was just to awesome. I dun have the eng sub but u can find the video here
http://hk.youtube.com/watch?v=YVs975A0sEM
In one word ” Kim Rae Won ROCKS…”

June 19th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Pretty Good. Began noticing KRW bcos of this drama.
June 30th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Wow! I’ve too much to say about the drama, but don’t know where to begin with. Anyway, just one word to fully describe the series, which is “EXCELLENT”!. From storyline, castings, plot (can be better though), and of course the FOODS!
I’ve been anticipating this drama ever since I first heard that KRW is coming back doing drama, and best of all is pairing with NSM.. And the couple turns out to be outstanding and perfect match for each other. Their chemistry is so strong and lively, hope they could fall for each other for real. And I wish there are more romance between the two. It should be fun for the two (naive, straightforward and funny Sung Chan vs clumsy yet adorable Jin Soo) to be in more romantic scenes.. 🙂
And I like the way the director/scriptwriter potray the love between Head Chef (Mr Oh) and Sung Chan. The relationship is purely sincere and wholeheartedly. We can feel the bond between them even they are not related by blood. And the last sentence whereby the Head Chef is dying and calling both Bong Joo and Sung Chan as “my son” is the most touching scene, I cried over it again and again. It’s a pity he left before he can see both his sons reconcile and join forces to get back Uhn Ahm Jung thru the cook-off competition.
But I was dissappointed when at last both Bong Joo and Sung Chan left Uhn Ahm Jung after fighting over it with Matsumoto. It should at least shows how at last Sung Chan resume his rightful position to lead Uhn Ahm Jung after Bong Joo left for his lesson mission. And he should propose properly to Jin Soo too (no jokingly..)! Ahh.. anyway the drama is great as it is, and I would rate 10/10 for it!
So for you Korean drama lover’s, lets watch this drama and make it the most sought after drama of the year.. Aja ja faiti!..
July 31st, 2009 at 8:57 pm

I like it ….kim Raewon is good here…..
I like the storyline…its makes you full in the stomach with all those equally delicious dishes….hahha
I wish it could have been more wide on the concept not just about the restaurant but also his (kim raewon) journey to diffrent cooking masters so it will give excitement and more realistic, like he said ‘theres a lot of masters around the world’ ,,,like in the ending….but still good good….
aja aja fighting c:

But I can not watch the special episode because its not in the DVD. Anyone know where can I watch the special episode from this drama?
March 30th, 2011 at 9:18 am
I’ve watched four episodes so far. Good stuff in general. Although it’s hard to suffer through all the mock seriousness (“the kitchen is a battlefield, we fight with steel and fire”) and contradictory philosophizing (see below) on the way to getting a couple of chefs laid with “traditional girl” and “kooky modern girl.”
Korean Chef Philosophy 101
“This contest is about creativity!”
15 minutes later
“This contest is not about creativity, it is about the chef’s sincerity.”
Whatevs … lol …

i guess its a nice and interesting drama series……. i jaz love watching the first episode…….. hope to watch more korean series all about food……
August 2nd, 2011 at 1:11 am
This was the first Korean drama I’ve watched, and I couldn’t have chosen a better specimen. The plot is a brilliant is a love story, wrapped in a coming of age tale (for several characters) and settled on a study on modern Korea’s place in the international community. There is a palpable sense that Koreans and Korea (as a nation) is try to find the balance between modernization, industrialization, internationalization and the sanctity of it’s history and culture.
To this point, I think Bong Joo represents the push towards modernization, the father represents an appeal to the past, Min Woo represents the mistakes made in the new Korea and Sung Chan represents a measured, thoughtful and promising modern Korea.
Be warned, the last few episodes pull you through the ringer emotionally, but it is very, very worth it.
August 25th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
Recently it repeat telecast of this drama on my television. I thought of wanting to skip it as the first episode was a bit boring at first. However, the background music, the awesome actor and actresses makes it more anxious wanting to carry on and the plot is wonderful. It makes you wanting to look for more.
Some episode makes it relax and some makes it erupt with emotional.
The relationship is what makes me so sad. I remember when Sung Chan telling his father that he is tired of competing. That makes me cried so much.
The episode when Sung Chan met his father at his house, the emotional runs through me. I didnt know i can cried so much because of this drama. The background music is so amazing. The slow rhythm can be so powerful.
I believe those that watch this with hearts will appreciate what a good drama this is. Amazing! I only watched till episode 13. Will keep watching. I’m afraid of emotional breakdown soon. xD

Gourmet is currently being aired here in Philippines by a local television channel and it’s dubbed to Filipino. Since I have work at night, I’m unable to watch the series. Good thing, there is an online streaming site that caters Korean series and Movies. I’m so impressed on how this series was created! I often find myself hungry while watching it. The sudden twist and turns of the story is really amazing. When I saw the commercial clips about this series before I taught it was too boring to watch since it involves cooking that I’m not found out doing ever. But it was a good series and I’m wondering what will happen to Sung Chan in the ending. Hope to finish this soon…

Why do you list this series as “Gourmet” when it is known everywhere else as “The Grand Chef” or “Le Grand Chef” (SikGaek)? It’s very confusing if trying to find about the series. Which is actually a very long series but a very memorable one – my kids will still get a laugh when I can announce dinner time as “Sung Chan foooods!”
