This drama has too many stereotypes and paints Vietnamese in a bad light. Acting is horrible and story line is predictable.
July 28th, 2007 at 2:59 am

December 10th, 2007 at 5:57 pm
This movie is okay..the only thing that i hate about this drama is the whole vietnamese in the drama.. Im vietnamese and i find most of it to be offensive..but other than that it was a great drama.. although i did find it very funny and surprise that heechul speaks vietnamese better than jin joo in the drama.. i was surprise it’s ok since she’s not vietnamese…
December 13th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
This is a really good drama. The lead actress I guess is rather new in the industry. She over acted and does cry excessively. Overall the rest of the cast are good. Very interesting, story based on inter-racial marriage which I am sure that some asian families are very much against mixed marriages.
I don’t believe that they portray the Korean women correctly. My friends have strong and fiesty personality. Can’t stand weak men or women.
I am waiting for ep. 46 with eng. sub to come out.
December 23rd, 2007 at 6:02 am
If you want to watch this drama with eng sub, then go to aznv.tv (without www.)
But you need to download winamp to wath the drames and movies there because it’s m3u files.
January 4th, 2008 at 11:18 am
So far, l Like the story n all character…. I am waiting for the end of the story.. When Jin joo meet her korean father.. the conflict…ect.. ect…
January 19th, 2008 at 4:26 am
Oh, I love this drama very much. I love all the characters and their actings. I love watching the female leading star. She is cute and adorable. She and song chang ui are a very adorable and matching couple. They make the whole drama very interesting and romantic. They are not shy with each other which makes everything seems so real. Although lee young ah acting is not really acceptable by some people but I am fond of her character in this drama. I don’t think she is overact. This is part of the character which the script-writer and director want her to act in this manner. I am sure that she has a bright future as she is young and will continue to polish her acting in future. I have watched her other dramas and she is so good. I think that her crying scene should be acceptable as she has to act in the way that she is so miserable and heartache ‘cos of her father who is ungrateful and she is not acceptable by society in Korea. I don’t think that other actresses will act as good as her as crying will make such an ugly sight. I should say that lee young ha has sacrificed her image for this drama.
Salute to her!!!!!!!
January 19th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
i’ve watching golden bride epsiode 24 right now. and i’ll keep watching it.
i think this drama story is pretty amazing, it differs from your typical korean drama [love triangle-boy likes girl, girls likes boy, another boy likes girl..ect..]
the acting is really good, the main actress really showed her best acting like a person who isn’t much fluent all in korean.
but i hate how they portrayed the vietnamese, DUH!!! Vietnamese people know what a supermarket is, we know what a rice cooker is, duh duh duh!
January 26th, 2008 at 3:52 am
BACK IN 75 IN VIET NAM WE DO HAVE ELECTRIC RICE COOKER
WASHER AND REFRIGERATOR. HELLO.
February 20th, 2008 at 9:24 am

February 21st, 2008 at 6:55 am
I thought this was called Vietnam bride. So far this story is so good but it sucks that I have to wait till Sunday to watch it. But at least it’s 2 hours long. I love this story. It has an interesting twist & I can’t wait to see the ending.

I find this drama series heart warming with interesting storyline. I don’t mind watching drama with over 50 episodes so long that is has a satisfying ending like “Love in Heaven”. I am still at the earlier part. In fact, I haven’t finished its first 20 episodes, but am drawn to it. Never mind the female lead’s overacting crying scenes, I think she has to do that to make it appear that she annoys the lead male character. There are just some offensive remarks that Korean producers should take into account. They should be reminded that korean series have wide viewership in asian countries, and Philippines is one of them. Our country has been mentioned many times during scenes when the lead female character was doing weird things because she’s not a Korean. They would say “you’re from the Philippines or Vietnam.” If not for its lovely storyline, I would have stop watching it through the end.
June 11th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I am not surprised if this series has earned a lot of viewership. I have few episodes left, but it seems I don’t want to end watching it. It’s so heartwarming. It’s seldom that you get to watch a series and enjoy and you get something out of it in terms of enriching wisdom and values. Of course, my most favorite couple is Jin Joo and Jun Woo. I love how their fondness and love for each other have developed through out the series. You just can’t help but fall in love with them, especially Jun Woo, who turned out to a devoted and loving husband to Jin Joo, in spite of match made marriage. Oh I just love the way they kiss and make up every time they are confronted with obstacles and misunderstanding. Jin Joo by the way, has herself become prettier towards the middle part of the series.
Young Min and Ji Young couple is perhaps the unhappy couple in the series, but my heart aches for them. They look so good and yet their love for each other has found themselves miserable at all times because of Ji Young’s past. I really don’t know what would become of them, but I hope they would be able to surpass their sad predicament.
Actually, Ji Young isn’t the villainess for Jin Joo, but In Kyung, that greedy husband grabber, who only things of her own well being than others. Oh she was very effective. There were moments that I would love to pull her hair and scratch her eyes out because of her persistence to the point of trying to break JJ and JW marriage by convincing JW to go the US with her.
Another love torn couple is Sae Mi and Young So, who were caught between their families’ trouble and secrets behind which they don’t even know and understand.
I highly recommend this series to everyone. It might have over 60 eps but it’s worth watching every chapter of it.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
this k drama is great and highly recommanded to watch. the male actor song changui has unique charm when he shown tenderness to jin joo. i love this drama very much.
July 6th, 2008 at 12:56 am
love this drama, the two main characters really act like a real couple. love jun woo and jin joo. jun woo is the best husband in the world!!!
July 31st, 2008 at 2:14 pm
This is one of the best Korean dramas I’ve seen! It’s heartwarming, romantic, funny and clean. Jin Joo and Jun Woo have amazing chemistry together! It’s not influenced by US standards of romantic dramas that is characterized by constant promiscuity and just plain smut. It’s definitely worth watching all 64 episodes. I can watch them over and over again! I was so sad that it ended. I hope they can make more dramas just like it.
August 26th, 2008 at 10:14 am
haven’t the patience to watch dramas longer than 24eps, it’s my longest, I can’t have a peace of mind if I wasn’t able to finish watching it in 2days to know the ending…. have tried watching Yi San coz I love Lee Seo Jin but get tired of it after 40eps and jumped to eps60… lack of romantic scenes that’s why…. then found this one, got curious with it coz it earned good ratings, tried the first few eps and instantly hooked with it….though yes sometimes you may think that the lead actress overacts in some of her scenes, esp the crying scenes but Song Chang Ui acting not to mention his FACE will compensate you for it esp their lovey-dovey scenes, and the scenes where Jun Woo showing his love to his wife, perfect husband material!……now discover the fun of watching dramas with longer eps, you’ll be able to see your eye candy longer lol!…..that is if the story is like that of Golden Bride, which got romance, comedy in every eps, though sometimes predictable didn’t mind it at all coz in every eps you’ll find yourself hoping for that Jun Woo-Jin Joo cute scenes….
September 1st, 2008 at 7:50 am
is this a true story? Happen to see the ending of every disc with pics of vietnamese & korean couple together with a baby each time. Can someone throw some light? I am in Episode 35 now but am curious what is the ending of Kim Young Min and his wife?
September 1st, 2008 at 8:57 am
I don’t think this is a true story….maybe the pix you’re talking about is the pix Jin Joo is always looking at everytime he misses his father?? that is the pix of his father, herself and her mom…..have actually finish watching this one just this weekend, have actually bought the dvd copy of it (to put in my keeper shelf) coz can’t find the complete videos of it on the net…..though sadly the one I bought also has some cuts on it, and for the first time though it has 64eps I’ve rewatched it for the 2nd time, though I’ve only look for those of Jun Woo – Jin Joo cute scenes….whew! just can’t get enough of it…….just love Jun Woo! and Song Chang Ui of course…..you really wanna know what happened to the 2nd couple?? well they got divorced though you can see that they really love each other but I guessed love wasn’t just enough to make relationship work…….am now waiting for The Scale of Providence to start…love to see Song Chang Ui in another role……though sadly it only has 16eps….it will only took me one day to finish it!
September 11th, 2008 at 11:56 am
that’s strange, I keep seeing those pictures of vietnamese and Koreans together at the end of every episode. Was thinking if this is a true story but with deviations. Is actress who acted as Jin Joo’s mother a Vietnamese? I must agree Song Chang Ui acted well in this drama.
September 19th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
The story of Golden Bride is beautiful. No doubt about it. But the character of Nguyen Jin Joo being mistaken as Filipina (from the Philippines) is so degrading for us Filipinos. We were all disappointed with this. You can compared the character to other small countries but not the Philippines. 90% of Filipinos are beautiful and well educated. Majority of us speaks english. It is the second language in our country and it is the medium of instructions in all the schools in the Philippines. Speaking of beautiful Filipinas, we have 2 Miss Universe & 3 Miss International winners aside from numerous runners up. The first Miss Universe & Miss International were both married to rich and prominent families in the Phils. Filipinos were not conceived to be a mail order bride in Korea.

The story of Golden Bride was really good. But I also don’t like the fact that the character of Nguyen Jin Joo being mistaken as Filipina (from the Philippines). We Filipinos belong to the third world country but that doesn’t mean that we are dumb. As a matter of fact a lot of Filipininos are well educated and famous Architects and engineers around the word. Besides from architects and engineer, we easily get hired as nurses because majority of Filipinos can speak English. We are also very talented especially when it comes to singing because oue english diction and intonation is really good. English which is widely spoken around the world. So please stop degrading us. A lot of Koreans study in country, besides that the tuition fee is more affordable are teachers or professors are highly qualified.

November 4th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
it’s by accident that i got to watched golden bride in channel 5 in our country, philippines. but from then on, i fell in love with the character of jinjoo and jun woo’s. i love to watched korean drama but so far i would say this is one of the best! Lee Young ah and Song Chang Ui acted very well. Hope i could see them both in another project they both look good in screen. I just read that Song Chang Ui is also a singer well so that’s the reason he sounds really good in all those episodes where he sang for Lee Young Ah. He did sing thrice in there! Hope they could both visit our country the Philippines, I’d be happy when that happened. Good luck to you guys and keep it up! I love you both!

sometimes i really get mad at my tita oyet because she was hooked on to this golden bride. Everytime i saw her watching the same drama for i guess 20 times! you won’t believed but it’s true it seems she couldn’t have enough of those episodes especially with jinjoo and jun woo lovey dovey…hayy.. grabe talaga! But now i understand her because she told me one time “ally i loved this drama because it portrays a lot of value about family and that no amount of success can ever compensate for failure at home…” well i could only wish that she’ll get over this soon… so she can have time to me and find time playing with me again! Huhuhu!!! I terribly miss you, tita oyet! Will someone help me out here!
November 6th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
i was surprised to read a comment from my child ally, and was amazed how honestly she expressed her feelings about her tita oyet who really was addicted to watching korean drama. but i also couldn’t help but laughed about how young she was (barely seven years old) and desperate to get the attention of her tita oyet. im sure she asked the helped of her other tita to post her comments here. anyway, im sure that your tita oyet has read this and right now will try to make up for all the times that she ignore your presence my darling…i’m still here honey, don’t worry…mommy will be here for you!
November 6th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
never does it occured in my mind that my fondness of watching golden bride has hurt my niece, ally. anyway, “darling ally, i really am so sorry if i have hurt you in any way.” but one thing i can assure you tita oyet may have ignore you in the past but that didn’t mean i no longer loves you. though, i must admit that indeed golden bride has been my favorite among the other korean drama/movie i’ve watched so far. but i promised this time i’ll spare some time for you…i love you baby!

I’ve just finished this series and find the relationship between Jin Joo andher husband amazing. However, she irritates me with her facial expressions and I find her contrite. She actually looks a little retarded in her movements especially when she panics and run or try to move quickly.
But I think everyone else acted well, except the younger brother of the rich family.
Otherwise the storyline is good and in some parts very funny.

Im in episode 46 and my eyes are getting swollen cause I just cant stop, I just want to finish but I cant cause I have a lot of work to do in the office. It shows in my eyes that I been up into something. Told them that Ive found this great korean drama that is airing now at channel 5. I wish weekend comes so that I can finish it. Cant wait to see a happy ending.

This movie is so intereseting. I understand that love is everything,, love isn’t only love his or her beauty but also love all the things he/she has.
All oph the actor is so handsome… Song chang-ui is so good 4 eva….
but this story is too long long and long and I spent one month to watch it all.
JLU alwayzz
March 27th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Yes! Jin Joo’s mother in the drama is Vietnamese.
what i want to say is that so everything is exaggerated! This drama makes people feel like Vietnamese are really really poor and stupid. Like once, Jin Joo went to the supermarket with her mother in law, why the heck would she pull out her citizen ID instead of a credit card?? i was really upset! wtf?? >”
May 20th, 2009 at 2:07 am
i finished watched a month ago…though there are many episodes, i just cant stopped watched…very interesting korean drama…it display family relationship and how they overcome the obstacles…i really it esp when the lovely scene betw jin joo and joon woo…there seemed perfect each other…though, it is unrealistic in reality as how can a guy be soo perfect and humble and lovely and never gets angry at whateva his wife done…the relationship between 2 families quite complicated…the cute couple, sae mi and hee chul also really interesting…overall i really enjoy the drama and hope to see another drama with has a lot family value instead of just typical korean drama where two guys love the heroin..
May 24th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
um………… i am vietnamese and i know for a fact that Vietnam has industrialized to the point where we know what the fuck a credit card is!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you live in the mountains or deep rural areas, you are gonna know plastic. Which is true for most of the cases with recently industrialized nations.
In general, most Koreans and Japanese people do not view Southeast asians in a favorable light. they have a lot of stereotypes against us. Not all Koreans, just the majority of them. And i guess they decided to play this up. What the hell? vietnamese people are not dumb, we are some of the smartest out there. and intelligence is not determined by race or ethinicity but by opprotunity and work.
And to comment on the people who say mistaking the Vietnamese person for a fillipina is degrading, you guys are totally off!!! In our culture, it is to be EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE to be mistaken for a fillipino!!!!!!! it means you really have dark skin and its not considered pretty, or you are not pretty in general. Just saying my grandma is old school generation, and yeah……….. but thats the stereotype in vietnam. we are kinda racist against fillipinos.
some of you guys should think about that in the context of the series when you watch it, it is very offensive for a viet to be labeled a fillipino… its an old culture thing…… its not nice but its there
May 25th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
the storyline was good but the series was too long and sometimes make me bored..^^
June 8th, 2009 at 9:49 am
@ 66
musikchik
You obviously are very angry with the stereotypes that this drama shows. But YOU, yourself, are you know, i hate to say this, a hypocrite. Having dark skin isn’t considered pretty? where are you? 18th, 19th century?
“EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE to be mistaken for a fillipino!!!!”?
“thats the stereotype in vietnam. we are kinda racist against fillipinos”
if that is how YOU explain the Veitnam culture, then SHOULD I say (again, i hate to say this) that YOUR culture is worse than the “korean culture” that you described (stereotyping)??????
because ethnocentrism is just as BAD as stereotyping, and for me, WORSE.
WOW! i don’t know what else to say… that’s just…. plainly RUDE.
FYI, not all Filipinos are dark-skinned. Actually, it doesn’t matter AT ALL what your skin color is!!!!!
when you said that your people are “some of the smartest out there”, then why don’t you act like one? why do you stereotype? why do you STILL think that SKIN COLOR is the basis for physical appearance? why are you being so ethnocentric?
Well if you define smart as stereotyping and being ethnocentric, then I don’t think I want to be smart. I’d rather be dumb.
To be honest, I DO NOT really think that ALL Vietnamese think and act like YOU. So PLEASE when you write a comment next time, don’t write as if you speak on behalf of the Veitnamese people.
@ 52 Nitz and 53 Precious
I AM a Filipino. I DO NOT think or feel that being mistaken as a Veitnamese is “DEGRADING”. How could you say that????
Like what I’m trying to say to 66musikchik, please don’t write a comment or anything as if you are speaking on behalf of the group of people you belong to because you DO NOT know that your views and opinions are the same with them.
Lastly, I AM NOT trying to be someone smarter than any of you. I really am not. But I DO believe that what I have said above is much better and nicer than what you guys have commented.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:53 am
GUYS, I AM REALLY SORRY!
I just noticed that my spellings of Veitnam and Vietnamese on my last comment are wrong.
forgive me.
Just because I got the spelling wrong DOES NOT mean that I’m stereotyping or being ethnocentric.
June 8th, 2009 at 10:01 am
Okay, there’s something else I want to add…
if there’s anyone or anything that should be blamed about the stereotyping of the girl’s character, then that should be the writers or the producers of this drama.
They should not do that in the first place because people are very sensitive when it comes to their own culture.
okay, I’m outta right.
peace out!
June 10th, 2009 at 4:26 am
Ok, well i really like this story, I don´t know much about Korean culture stereotypes of vietnamese and filipino people because i´m not korean, filipino or vietnamese, Im a mexican-american who got hooked on korean dramas because of one random nignt of flipping the channels on cable tv because she was annoyed with the retardedness of mexican and us dramas and sick of the smut that goes on in them.
Well on to the main point, i really like this story because I find it endearing how Jin Joo and Jun Woo have grown to love each other even though it was an arranged marriage done against Jun Woo´s permission, or desires.
I also have to admit that i actually started watching this drama because it was a drama that Hee Chul oppa was in. I really like his acting and have been a follower of his since i first saw him with his group Super Junior. I also really wanted to see him acting in a serious drama, since he usually does comedy dramas like Rainbow Romance. I wasn´t disappointed at all, i really like how he portrayed his character, because at first even though it was heechul i found his character quite annoying because he was soo irresponsible, but that all changed when he met Kang Sae Mi and he became even more attractive if that´s even possible, though i did laugh when he had the hairdresser cut his hair because he thought that his relationship with Sae Mi was finished. I will keep watching this drama to the end! Kim Heechul Hwaiting!!

@ 68, SALUDO aq xau!!!
HEECHUL OPPA…!! Fighting!!
July 4th, 2009 at 4:24 am
I am really disappointed on some of the comments here, one in particular.
To: musikchik, you need to get out your small world that you live in and discover the world have changed. The comment you just made about us Filipinos was extremely hurtful……We filipinos know how to respect different cultures and we don’t make judgements against other races, as matter of fact we tend to accept and adopt different culture. If YOU DO your research, filipinos are all over the world, DO YOU KNOW WHY??? I will tell you why, because we’re capable of accepting and interacting with different with races. NO MATTER what color of skin and whatever culture you came from. That is the beauty of being a Filipino “Musikchik”. I can say a hundred of negative things about Vietnamese people but I am not going to do that; you know why??? “”Musikchik”” I will not degrade my self just like you did when you made your comments. You say Vietnamese people are one of the smartest….Then obviously YOU ARE ONE OF THEM…… you obviously are NARROW MINDED when you made stupid comments regarding SKIN COLOR….Look around you and you will discover that diversity is all around “Musikchik”. I don’t know what part of the world you came from but you really need to get out more………
August 4th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
I feel very sad to read all the comments about skin color. For me , your skin color is not going to make you wiser, more loveable, happier ,richer nor give you succes in life.I personally knew a dark skin filipino man who got married to a beautiful vietnamese lady.so why they got married? becouse they both knew that thier skin color doesn’t matter.the dark filipino guy is very capable of making her happy financially, spiritually and everything thats makes a happy family like what’s you’er wathching in you drama.so get over your prejudices.it could be a hinder to you success in your life and your happiness.I watched this drama becouse i want to learn other countries culture.it surely is interesting.i learned a lot.hope you did to.remember ,your color is only skin deep.the true you in deep in your heart.
August 15th, 2009 at 10:19 am
Color, culture and family differences has nothing to do with your marriage. As long as you both love each other, it will work for sure.

To all of those who have been offended or hurt by my comments I apologize. I was addressing the facts of interethnic tensions among the many different asian ethnicites. I sincerely apologize. I would urge you to read the last paragraph in my statement. It was made for those to understand the context of what that statement would mean. Again, please understand that WAS NOT my opinion. This is the opinion of many in my country. When I visit my country this is the norm for most of the people living there. I have been confronted many times by people when they noticed that I have had a tan. The comments are unpleasant to say the least. I would like to stress the point that I stated it is not nice but it is there. I made this statement not because I was promoting this idea that lighter skin is beautiful. I was stating it because to me, it is the truth. Even at this state in social development, prejudices and racism still exists. I truly wish that judgements based on skin color does not exist because I too am not a girl with snowy white skin as advertised in many beauty ad campaigns. I never claimed that I BELIEVE skin color equals beauty.
I was upset at the fillipino people who said being mistaken for vietnamese was degrading. I should have taken the high road as pinay9705 pointed out. I apologize for that offense too. However I do not apologize for the statement that many believe it is true. My country is still not open to the idea that every skin tone is beautiful. pinay9705 please understand this. Just like the United States there are areas of openess but there are also areas closed to people of different skin tones such as the small towns of the deep South. Some of my black friends have had bad experiences on a road trip that was taken this summer of 2009. Even a multiracial nation such as the US has these issues. Vietnam has not been exposed to many different ethnicites and nationalities, so the tension is even further intensified and magnified. Even during the Vietnam War mixed children were considered to be ‘trash’ and were abandoned. Some closed-minded Vietnamese people even came up with a special slur name for them that is nationally recognized and used to THIS DAY. (It has the equivalent of the N word to African-Americans.) Many Vietnamese-Americans such as I view this as horrible and disgusting. But people STILL USE THIS WORD TO THIS DAY.
I do not agree with many of the people in my country who hold these contemptful views and still use that word and still stick to old ideals. Although I do not agree or believe in them, they still do exist. I will not justify the views of those from my culture who beilieve in the whole skin tone issue of lighter skin. Just like many different ethnicities of the asian race, there are many like I who disagree with the belief of their culture that streses that ideal of beauty. It is unfair and unjust but I can only hope that as Vietnam moves forward, it will change.
*also in a side note, Asians are not the only ones who have issues about this fact. My latino friends also complain that in almost every single music video the girls are also lighter skinned and have european features rather than Latino features. Blond hair instead of black, etc. My middle eastern and Indian friends also have noticed this in their culture of celebrities as well. My friends and I all agree that the average person from each of our differnt culture/race do not look anything like the idealized beauties that are elevated to celebrity status in our individual cultures.
October 4th, 2009 at 11:45 am
additionally, i forgot to mention that the newer generations in my country do not promote that ideal of beauty any longer.

I recently started watching this drama and must say that it is very, very good. I skipped it a few times over the years, thinking for some reason that it wouldn’t hold my attention. I now stand corrected! Maybe it was the total number of episodes that I just couldn’t see myself trying to watch. My max is 35 at the most. Yet, I’m well on my way and there’s no turning back! LOL!

I am curious why LYA has many fans in King Baker Kim Tae Goo and Eugene was recommended as 3rd lead role that leads me to Golden bride where LYA acted.
I find this drama very interesting and also with many good actresses and actors who can act very well.
I find LYA still cannot attract me very much even now at Episode 42 ..
I hope Song Chang Ui – the lead actor in Golden Bride – can have more chances in near future as a lead actor in other new drama because not only he is good looking – more important is he can act too.
He got the lead actor potential. So disappointed he always act as supporting roles or 2nd lead actor in Cinderalla Man etc or his pairing partner is just so so only. Hope he can pair up with good leading actress. Song Chang Ui — All the best to you in your career – Hope you can shine brighter —– SOON – yr fan from Singapore

wow! I was very suprised… I was flabbergasted how good this drama was. I truly loved it I highly recommended. In the beggining I was scanning it and by looking at the poster and read some reviews I thought I would try it and scanned it. but in the second epi I was hooked. that was beggining to become more more interested… through all 64 eps I couldn’t help but to watch it over.
Everyone I mean EVERYONE did a fine job acting. Mother, father, aunities, sisters everyone, acted as if its real life event..
This drama was fun and Very relax and much enjoyable. I felt as I was there. I Love Love it! Thumbs way UP!
Thank you for bringing and making this type of drama. ~Kudos!

Wow… this drama definitely superb. Worth watching. I love Golden Bride.
The romantic scene is not overly done and I am starting to admire Song Chang Ui and Lee Young Ah. One of my favourite. On top of the list.

I’ve been Lee Young Ah’s fans since Baker King. I will search and watch this drama. I like Song Chang Ui as well.
