this drama is fantastic & ji jin hee once again is proving his acting skills beyond his great role in jewel in the palace where i first loved this actor! in here he’s very funny, something most people never thought of this side of him. i highly recommend this drama to anyone who hasn’t seen it. i can’t wait for the dvd to come out as it’s a must-have for my collection. ji jin hee is so adorable as a 40 yr old virgin…his character here is so meticulous that he gives details to every mynut things around him.
btw to handrum — well said re korean & chinese characters — i’m learning the korean lang. & in my opinion it’s much simpler and easier than the chinese characters and language for that matter! i’m still having a hard time though with pronunciation and understanding some words but i can now write and read the korean hangul! i still have to reach my goal….and that is….to speak and understand it fully!

Over 2,000 Chinese (Traditional) characters were used by the early Korea. The Korean language is phonetic, and was influenced by the Chinese language. The Yi Dynasty of Korea developed new sets of alphabets to replace the Chinese characters because the emperor did not want the people of Korea to be illiterate. Many Chinese spent their life learning over 80,000 Chinese characters. As a result, many peasants in China were illiterate as well. Despite the new alphabets, Koreans still study and use the old Korean Chinese characters. Today, you will find American English has greatly influenced the Korean language and culture.

By the way, if you study Chinese, you will hear words that sound similar to Korean. It is quite amazing. It may be spelled in Korean alphabets, but can be traced to a Chinese character(s). Over time, language and culture change. So 2,000 or so Chinese characters may have been altered and/or simplified by the Koreans over hundreds or thousands of years.

I also watched the Japanese version and thought it was excellent. Like it was mentioned in an earlier post, it appealed to a more mature audience. I thought the script, the actor and the dialogue was really good. I hope the Korean version is just as good. Uhm Jung Hwa does comedy really well so I’m sure it’ll be good.

This series has not yet been broadcast in Korea. It’ll begin on June 15’09.

I saw the japanese original with Abe Hiroshi and thought it was brilliant. It will appeal to an older audience since the characters are middle aged. You can watch the Japanese version at mysoju.com
