Synopsis
This is the story of two women, Seo Jung Eun and Han Yoo Kyung, who walk very different paths to achieve their desires. Seo Jung Eun is a strong and courageous woman who has suffered a difficult life, having grown up in an orphanage, but continues to embrace people around her despite longing for affection herself. Jung Eun harbours the hope that she will meet her mother if she becomes a star, striving to reach her goal and overcome her suffering with her pure and innocent nature. In contrast, Han Yoo Kyung has a birth secret for which she is willing to throw away everything in order to get revenge. The “thorn birds” of the title refers to Jung Eun’s character, who only brings out her best at the cost of great pain. A thorn bird is a mythical bird who searches for a thorn tree from the day it is born. When it finds it, the bird impales itself upon the sharpest thorn, and rises above the agony to sing the most beautiful song ever heard.

i think this drama has a great story line , but god that girl who gave her child away is full of vernom , i mean what human being would do the things young j did she to me is way to heartless, and a complete bitch, it is true what they say that blood is thicker that water like mother like daughter , i dont get why most poeple who make comments here say they cryed i am at ep 18 now and am yet to cry i feel anger more for all the shit that crazy bitch young j did , i mean so far i want to pull her hair my self and drag her trough the mud , as for her mother she is nothing but a joke her self ,jung eun is what you call a fool as well , her kindness was way too much , the fact that she let self be used by her friend like that was just foolish and stupid , and to learn that she raise the child of a man she has loved since she was 14, makes it even more a mess, and some comments here say the guy did not realy like her well , i think if the guy did not actualy like her which to me so far i think he did beacuse so far i guess the guy finaly understands there is more to love that just sleeping togther which is what he misunderstood as love because when he finaly gets to see the realy person behind the face of the woman he believed he loved he just want to kill her , because she only went for the guy because she knew her best friend liked him and because he was rich , it was never because she loved him and if she did at any time love hime she would have found a way to forgive what ever misunderstanding she tought the guys family had to do with her been taken away from her mother , but she did not instead she throw the guys baby away but hey i still have 2 more ep to see but hey hung eun sure needs to be loved and taken care ok , to be honest i have watch a lot villian s in korean dramas but this villian here makes me so angry from start to finish

this one is now airing in my country. another one with “orphans” factor in it. most of the kdrama i’ve seen so far, not really many tho, has this plot where the child is separated from his/her biological father/mother thus created the conflict. kinda tiring somehow, this element of “disconnected” child. i agree with some comments here saying that the story does not really make sense, the way jung eun stayed with yoo kyung’s family, i.e. ae ri (yoo kyung’s mother), yoo kyung’s baby, incl ae ri’s family and then also young jo – yoo kyung’s bf (baby’s father), especially after ae ri’s found out everything and asked jung eun to leave to lead her own life, that time ae ri & the baby were already with ae ri’s family who took care of them. if jung eun stayed becos she wanted a family and had no career ambition but then she still doing casting and stuff..and there was not much going on between her and young jo either. young jo seemed to have no “passion ” for jung eun either, just like scenes among neighbors.. overall, quite uninteresting, flat, bland, insipid, humdrum….
i wonder, if the cast is reversed, Han Hye Jin as Han Yo Kyung and Kim Min Jung as Seo Jung Eun.. wouldnt that, perhaps, give more color to this series? becos KMJung is perceived to be not as beautiful as HHJin and the role is that of suffering and a bit stupid in a way, hehe… in reality the ones who would likely to suffer more is those who look like KMJung rather than HHJin, in reality beautiful people tend to have it – relatively – easier (not all of course) so if you want to create a film that is closer to reality, neighborly every day things with no sparks and quite flat might as well do the cast closer to reality too and see how it goes…hehe… and perhaps people might not ‘curse’ as much on KMJung..hehe..

I think that Han Yoo Kyung just has some mental issues like how can you treat your friend that way and leave her to take the blame? After all she did for her taking care of her child and mother? Then she just pops up out of no where and wants her family bac well what can I say you left them so you lose them that’s just it.

This drama’s story line is so addictive. At first it seemed so boring but when the baby is was born the plot situation became so exciting. My mother also can’t stop watching this, when she came home at 9pm she watch this and slept at 2am. The end is just a bit hang up but the character’s acting are so powerful.

I love this show. I watch the entire thing in 3 days. I am not to the next Korean Drama show now but a little sad that there are no more episodes. The Thorn Birds rock!

I have been enjoying The Thorn Birds UNTIL the part that Han Yoo Kyung registered Seo Jung Eun’s name (with Seo’s id) as Han’s unwanted newborn baby – in the hospital with Seo holding the baby!!!!! I know it is possible with identity theft these days. How could Seo let it happen while all parties were in the hospital with the nurse watching. The more ridiculous part was the hospital did not even ask for ids. The second ridiculous part was Seo did not expose Han, but at the meantime she reprimanded Han for the cruelty to abandon her own child and lay a bombshell on Seo. C’mon, just fix the record and walk away!!!!! Instead, Seo had the heart to listen to B.S. about Han’s sob story and let Han run away. Did the story writer trying to convince me this part of the plot?? I don’t think so!!!! Are we serious? The American soap operas might contain stories of betrayal and heartlessness, but plot like this does not convince me. I just stopping watching the rest of the drama and discarded the DVDs.

The Thorn Birds is another one of my favorite dramas to watched over and over and not get tired of it. The acting is great.
