Michael King is a top investment executive who has a secret double life as one of the world’s top assassins. In his other life, he is known as Choi Kang Ta, or codenamed as “Peter Pan.” His parents were killed when he was only a child. Because of this, he is determined to systematically destroy the ones that killed his parents. His parents’ murderers are now the top CEOs of several companies in South Korea. King, along with his friends Vivian Castle, Professor, Dennis, and Johnny, form a secret team that seeks to reveal to the world the horrible deeds done by these CEOs. But along the way, King falls in love with a reporter named Jin Bo Bae. His love for the reporter threatens to tear the team apart because Vivian also harbors a deep love for King and an increasing hatred for Jin Bo Bae.

This drama succeeds and fails in several different ways. I’ll concentrate first on where the drama succeeds. First off, the whole idea of the drama was very cool. It felt a lot like a superhero movie or a James Bond movie which I thought was quite a refreshing change from the usual dramas that I watch. The action scenes are decent, and they picked a guy who definitely fits the part. The series also captures all of the emotions necessary for an engaging series. There’s humor, there’s action, there’s melancholy, this series had it all. Another thing I really liked was that the drama was more fast-paced. There weren’t any “wasted” moments. You’re not going to be getting scene after scene of filler emotional stuff. It’s great when I know that a drama isn’t going to waste my time. One last thing. The actress who played Vivian Castle (Han Go Eun) was HOT AS HELL. Seriously why had I never seen her before. DAMN.

Now let’s talk about where the drama fell short. The main love story between Michael King and Jin Bo Bae wasn’t all that interesting. It might have to do with the fact that Bo Bae seemed incredibly stupid in this movie. She endangers everyone, asks stupid questions, and basically is like the ditzy blonde girl that is super annoying. She also didn’t look very good in this series, and was severely overshadowed in the beauty department by Vivian Castle. Another reason is that some of the supporting characters were terrible. The main love rival, Hwang Woo Hyun, absolutely didn’t stand a chance against Michael King when it came to wooing Jin Bo Bae. The director made him super creepy and also seemingly mentally unstable (he stalks Bo Bae and also kills a horse with a gun after he loses a race against Michael King). Also I had some problem with the plotholes in the story, which you guys will discover when you watch it. Basically these plotholes say, “the detectives in this movie suck at their job. Even I could do better.”

Michael King is played by Song Il Gook. He is a batman figure. Mysterious, charming, handsome, but also a badass fighter. Whoever casted him did a good job because he really fit the role well. Song Il Gook is very lean and muscular. One thing I would change is the hair. His hair in some parts of the movie reminded me of a bird or something because he ties it up in a sort-of man bun. Also this guy is super weird in some ways. Here is a super hot girl who wants you, and you go for the uglier, dumber one. Just goes to show that men always want what they don’t have.

Jin Bo Bae is played by Han Chae Young. I’ve never liked Han Chae Young, but I especially disliked her in this series. For one thing she could have used a little bit more makeup as she looks incredibly plain against the stunning Han Go Eun (portraying Vivian Castle). Another is that the director routinely has her “talking to herself,” which I felt was pretty odd. Show don’t tell is usually the best plan for storytelling, and I felt the character of Jin Bo Bae sometimes insulted my intelligence. She also routinely asks stupid questions as a reporter. For example, she basically asks a company president, “Hey are you guys corrupt?” If they were, why the heck would they answer that question truthfully? Come on now.

Vivian Castle is played by Han Go Eun. She’s my favorite character in the whole series, but I might be biased because she’s probably one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever laid eyes on. Seriously. Just watch her sequence where she shows off her bare back and tattoo and you’ll see why. Vivian also has a much deeper character arc than Jin Bo Bae, which I found weird. We are able to really feel and see Vivian’s emotions. Her love for Michael. Her regret at her decision (you’ll find out, it’s pretty major). She’s probably even more developed upon than Jin Bo Bae despite only being a secondary character. Loved her. Hated the fact though that she’s the love rival.

Hwang Woo Hyun is played by Kim Min Jong. I hated this guy. He was a great antagonist, but he was also quite ridiculous in some senses. He did not pose a threat at all to Michael King when it came to wooing Jin Bo Bae. He stalks Jin Bo Bae at night and also lies to hide up his own corruption. He is a CIS agent (Central Intelligence Service), and he is probably one of the most corrupt CIS agents in the organization. I didn’t really like how they portrayed the CIS as such corrupt bunch of guys. Instead perhaps they could have made him into just a normal CIS agent trying to find the vigilante superhero. However, they actually made him into an evil character, which I thought was pretty unnecessary.

There are many more characters, but they don’t really play into the main love triangles of the movie. I did like Jo Jin Woong as Jang Ho, the bumbling son of one of the CEOs in the movie. He’s hilarious in his role as Jang Ho. Also Yoo In Young as Jang Mi was not a bad character either. She’s sexy in her own way as well. As for the rest of the characters, well, you’ll see about them when you watch the series, there’s just too many to explain in here.

The series has its good and bad parts, but overall, its a good series to watch. It is a bit long, at over 20 episodes, but it’s worth it.

Epic drama, TWSSG The Legend received a positive reception from the time it started its broadcasting last week of September and even exceeded rating of JuMong on its initial telecast last year.. TWSSG also raised talk because the audience, after their support to JuMong until its explosive rating ending began to adore epic dramas due to its finest costume, historical scenes, medieval romps and period pictures which cover a large expance of time set against a vast panoramic backdrop, making it catch attention from its wide-range audience… TWSSG share elements of the elaborate adventure story genre.. It’s about a heroic figure with mythic, legendary and lavish costume, accompanied by dramatic scope and high production values and sweeping musical score… TWSSG is considered to be a sword and sandal epic qualified as a sub-genre, and just like JuMong, it captured the hearts of many televiewers and supporters of epic adventure films.. Not to mention that characters place a high factor of its success.. TWSSG’s main lead actor is asian popular actor, Bae Yong Joon and according to the news, he has done a perfect portrayal in this MBC series..

Opposite rival on timeslot, the Lobbyist is an action drama film… It will start its bangsong on the 10th after its postponement for 1 week… This SBS series stars JuMong’s national actor korean hearthrob Song il-Kook as Harry.. According to some teasers and talks, Lobbyist will sweep away the boredom in your living room because of its high energy, big budgeted physical stunts and chases, battles and fights, escapes, explosions and fires, a better way to feel relaxed after a strenuous work. Another thing is the return of Glass Shoes and All About Eve starrer, Han Jae Suk.. People missed him on the screen, and so his fellow supporters guaranteed a 100% support to this project.. These two dimensional “good and bad guy” heroes assured the audience a non-stop motion, incredible rhythm and pacing and adventurous battle, all designed for pure audience diversion…

Momentarily, TWSSG and The Lobbyist have different audience market and genre… And its stars also have different fan base and outpost popularity… Mêlée between the two should not be squabbled about…

SBS Lobbyist casts and story already is a performance masterpiece.. Finally, as it started, it will confront with MBC’s The Legend when it comes to audience rating. Before it started its shooting and its release, there were quite a number of controversies arose in this series, like the point when they got the services of Han jae-seok who was out of the limelight for quite sometime due to his military services and will he maintain the magic he had before on tv? Thus, Song il-Kook who cannot easily get rid off his heroic character in JuMong, now comes with a totally new character as Harry…

Jan Jin Yeong did a tango dance…it is somehow one of the highlights in the series, not to mention SIK on the side as her partner..But will it get attention?

It was rumoured to sweep off by TWSSG on ratings..

Moreover, the Lobbyist first broadcasting which was supposed to be on the 3rd was suddenly postponed 3 days before, on the 10th, due to the North and South Korea Summit meeting…

But the positive of it all, inspite of all the issues like these, a drama that causes a constant criticism before its telecast consequentially pulls more attention like this and gets audience attention as well.. It is not an exaggeration to say that TWSSG pulled off on rating and can however pull up the Lobbyist as well due to its curiosity and not to mention the popularity of the main actor…

We still have to find out as to whether The Lobbyist will have a sky-scraping rating on its initial telecast just like TWSSG..

  7. 594
    Toy Says:

Still there is negation where the viewers can accept the airing of the lobbyist … of course, not to mention the exposure of Song il Gook which is a strong point of an audience catch on…Another thing, Jan Jing Yeong and Han Jae Seok who both did well in this series and their performance raised confidence of SIG…

SIG and JJY had a tango scene in the pole and the admiration of the staff during the actual shooting was tremendous

  8. 593
    Toy Says:

The Lobbyist is a great drama with a production cost of
12000000000 Won over TWSSG’s 43000000000 won …He also calculated that TWSSG is a competitive show and he knows the heavy pressure on his shoulder…But he also specified that Lobbyist has a different line of vision, male viewers can relate to the story with the usage of new weapons apart from his past project, great movement action and he knows, the story can also draw in women viewers…

    Canary Says:

For the regular viewers of the SBS drama series, The Lobbyist, actor, Song il Gook is of course one among the known faces in the cast. Though he comes from a family of showbiz, he decided to take acting as his own profession and has been in acting successfully for quite a long period of time..

He has got the recognition, popularity, financial stability through his acting in Korean films and serials and he has been appreciated a lot by asian audience for his extraordinary performances, especially in Condition of love, Jumong and now, as it starts, an action genre the Lobbyist, viewers need to witness it first before they give their own judgement..

On recent interview, SIK expressed his views on different topics. His latest serial which is jampacked cast, how does he compare it to his previous serials.. “i worked in dramas before and epic missions like JuMong and Haesin, first of all the budgets are remarkably different. Epic serials are high on magnificence and extravagance when it comes to costumes and location scenes.. Once the sets and lights are ready, we shoot many scenes a day to accomplish something in a day after all the huge efforts and gears and make ups and head dresses.. The Lobbyist is risky likewise as you handle, guns and other weapons, bombs and fire.. Logic and content are still a valuable part here… But both are high on drama and camera movement.. In everything you do, you have to get identified with the role, I always do series that are not sub-standard so people will like it and I am proud to say that Lobbyist is something you cannot outright reject…” he said..

  10. 591
    Canary Says:

Every week, people get accustomed to the korea’s drama series Lobbyist…A car chase scene developed interest concerning the cast’s occupation as the lobbyist, an early development on the show rise a single bit…
Next episode will concentrate on tank scenes and simultaneously Mary based on the trailer at the end..

Finally, more news about upcoming MBC drama A Man Called God. Character descriptions have been released, as well as news that Han Chae-young has been cast as Song Il-kook’s leading lady.

Hard to believe she hasn’t acted in a television drama (in a role that wasn’t a cameo, as she did appear in a few episodes of Boys Before Flowers) in four years; how time flies! The last drama that Korea’s “Barbie doll” actress starred in was 2006’s underwhelming Fireworks (which was watchable mostly because of Kang Ji-hwan); before that, she had 2005’s Only You and Delightful Girl Chun-hyang. In the interim, she’s mostly done films, such as last year’s Good Morning, President with Jang Dong-gun and the more recent Girlfriends.

A Man Called God is a drama adaptation of a manhwa that is described as a “love story about a modern day hero.” The lead character is “Michael King,” also known as “Choi Kang-ta,” played by Song Il-kook, who vows to seek revenge upon the enemy who killed his parents. He becomes the boss of a secret underground organization and takes on a worldwide drug syndicate. Han Chae-young plays a rookie journalist on the local news beat, “Jin Bo-bae.” As he falls in love with her, his belief that “I’ll use evil to punish a greater evil” is shaken. This role was initially going to be played by Jung Ryeo-won, but she dropped out due to personal reasons.

Kim Min-jong (Return of Iljimae) has been cast as an intelligent, sharp man; a rivalry springs up after he runs into Bo-bae, his first love. Complicating things is Han Go-eun (Can Anyone Love), who takes the role of a woman utterly devoted to Michael King who swears her undying love to him. However, when Michael returns to Korea, he falls for Bo-bae insead.

A Man Called God starts filming in February in Hawaii and will follow Assorted Gems on weekends. Its first episode will air on March 6.

Top actress Jang Jin-yeong, who had been struggling with stomach cancer, died on September 1 at age 37. Jang’s agency, Yedang Entertainment, said the actress passed away at 4:04 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Seoul.

Jang learned about her disease in September last year during a health checkup, and since then had undergone treatment in Seoul. Her condition improved once, and she even attended a concert of singer Kim Gun-mo in May. In July this year she received treatment in the U.S. and shortly afterward disclosed that she had a boyfriend.

The actress also received acupuncture treatment and even talked about it on TV. But she was hospitalized again because her condition deteriorated last month, and she was told that her cancer had spread all over the body and was impossible to cure.

Jang’s agency said the actress had suspended her treatment last month and had been spending time with her family to prepare for her death.

Last month, Jang was transferred from Seoul National University Hospital to St. Mary’s Hospital. She was already unconscious when she was transferred.

Born in 1972 in North Jeolla Province, Jang debuted as an entertainer in 1992 when she won the Miss South Chungcheong Province title. She appeared in many TV commercials and debuted as an actress in the 1997 TV drama “Angel In Me”. She went on to appear in “Three Guys, Three Girls”, “Good Heart”. “Soonpoong Clinic” and others. While playing only supporting roles in TV dramas, Chang made a foray onto the big screen in 1999 and since then had grown into a highly recognized movie actress.

She appeared in the movies “Ghost In Love”, “The Foul King”, “Sorum”, “The Scent of Love” and “Singles”. She was the first actor in Korea to portray the life of a woman pilot in the movie “Blue Swallow”. In “Between Love And Hate”, she perfectly portrayed a woman living on the fringes of society, gaining recognition for her outstanding talent.

Jang received the Best Actress award for her roles in “Sorum”, “Singles”, “Blue Swallow” and “Between Love And Hate” (“The Unbearable Lightness of Dating”). She also received the Best New Actress, Popular Star and Best Actress in a Miniseries awards. The movie “Sorum” earned her the Best Leading Actress award at the 2002 Portugal Fantas Porto Festival.

Jang appeared in numerous TV commercials. In the 2002 commercial for Hyundai Card, where she appeared alongside actor Jeong Joon-ho, she portrayed a working woman who was about to go away on a vacation. She also acted as a model for air conditioner and cosmetics brands thanks to her healthy and sexy charm.

Jang made a comeback to the small screen after a long absence in October 2007 through the SBS TV drama “Lobbyist”, where she played lobbyist Maria. That was her last production.

Jang’s bereaved family includes her parents and elder sister. Her altar has been set up at St. Mary’s Hospital in Seoul. The funeral is slated for September 4.
