Synopsis
The life of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) is not easy; she works many jobs to pay off debts and even gave up her feminine image. Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) is the heir of a big food company, but his grandmother wants him to settle down, so she arranged many dates for him. After Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy, Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan had no choice but to accept. Han Kyul’s grandmother also made Han Kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begged to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his “homosexuality”?

Just finished this drama. It is much better than expected and has become one of my favorite Kdramas now.
However, I believe the success of this drama is largely due to YEH’s outstanding performance,
and to lesser extent the performances of the other 3 protagonists. To be honest, the stories of the
other support casts in the coffee shop aren’t that interesting (nor the stories of the older characters etc.).
In fact, the whole story is kind of ordinary. The drama definitely dragged near the end. For example, the parts
about GW’s overly anger after realizing YEH is female, and the part about YEH stubbornly not willing to take help
from GW etc. etc. are going overboard and are probably just put in to stretch the drama.
YEH didn’t act well during the 1st episode or so, but picked up spectacularly later. Her tomboy performance is
the best one I have ever seen. I have seen too many actors who couldn’t show just woke-up sleepy eyes properly
but YEH did well.
In real life, YEH is probably a tomboy as well (In the Special, Lee Sun Gyun said that YEH’s character is the closest
to her real life personalities among all the actors in this drama).
During her interview in the Special, YEH clearly stated that she understands that her strong suit is not her beauty
(in fact, her look is not outstanding, to put it politely, among all the plastic surgery operated actresses). Her
acting is the main reason of her success so far.
Credit should also go the female producer/director who probably created some impressive and memorable scene, such as
the beach scene and some others.

‘Coffee Prince’ is my best favorite ever! Yes, I love ‘City Hall’, ‘You’re beautiful’, ‘Smile You’, and a lot more, but ‘Coffee Prince’ is still number one! All of the casts are a great team! The story is fun and the music is great. I can watch it again and again anytime;)
