@reindeer ““DEAR” seems a bit condescending”.

Not at all. I don’t use the term generally, but to be sure my meaning is NOT condescending or disrespectful where it’s called for, I use it as it was used in classical literature to signal my sincerity. Once that is established, we need not use it again.

It is interesting now you raised it, unlike the societies of 100 or so years ago, we use less and less terms of respect.

    reindeer song Says:

To Nudge and others, I am not making an issue, its just an observation. As I stated I use the term”Hello Love” when I meet others or friends, guys especially have a slight astonishment of uncomfortability. Again, I stated it a “Term of Endearment” The word dear was not only attached to me that is why I said something. SORRY! When I use that word, I annunciate it differently. Lets not give power to the thought!

Its a free world. We all make our own choice, may it be heirachial or of our own volition.

At the end of the day, whether we sink or swim boils down to whatever choice we make. Don’t you think so?

Life is all about choices, a good and wise choice or a bad one is all up to each of us.

Bigotry has nothing to do with it. Free will, does!! (Go slap your own head. What were you trying to say? )

Waving Not Drowning, I apologise for treading on your sense and sensibility of your Asian roots. We as passionate posters, we tend to look beyond and question the reality of what we see so we can better understand and copmprehend it significance.

    Syrena Says:

Overall, it is a good drama and deserves the top rating.

I can’t fault any of the actors including both sets of twins – the older and the younger ones.

It will be missed when it ends.

    John Says:

It started good. But as soon as “father” came back after decades of abandoning his family and whoever writing the story trying to make sorry for him, this drama turned to a piece of shit. I never heard such unrealistic and stupid story. I left Korea about 40 years ago and hope that korean do not still fall for this kind of 3rd rated shitty work.

    reindeer song Says:

John I totally agree, with father segment has ruined the integrity of the show. By the way when is he leaving?

  10. 285
    cradrama Says:

@John & reindeer song. I am super surprised that this drama is the top of the chart. that show how people are. I can’t stand the father and have to give up this drama. The stupid story plot is what made of those hallucinate writers in Kdramas, some of them make you wanted to pull your hairs out. They are not realistic just delusion.

  11. 286
    reindeer song Says:

Oh Cradrama spear me. The writing and storyline went downhill when the father entered the picture. Making the male & female lead wishy washy, how many times has HY changed her mind about marrying DS? They are not decisive, you see in one episode that DS tries to be decisive and take a stand then the next episode he is wishy washy, they keep seesawing. It is truly frustrating. My question again “WHEN IS THE FATHER LEAVING”?

  12. 287
    kingtez64 Says:

This is one boring drama for lee seo jin..nothing so great about his role..i got only interest to his twin sis. With the doc…oh well the shameless father gives a little highlight of the drama that u can react and curse him frm head to toe..lol

    Farah Khan Says:

I am so eager wanted this drama to be ending faster. First, I am so fascinating about the wonderful story about Dongsuk returned to his hometown met back his first lover and his family after 15 years departed. But now, approaching to the end, I only knew how dysfunctional family that Dongsuk had and so many illogical elements between his family members. Now, I just want to know when can Dongsuk just leaves his family and lives with his wife in Seoul? Hope they will have wonderful life in Seoul in the end. (^=^)

That’s an interesting take Farah. Dongsuk and Haewon going off on their own. But this is a drama all about family.

I’ve always thought they’d work things out and live together harmoniously with So Sim and the others. I think one of the Confucius aphorisms that is underpinning the drama is: seeking balance against difficult odds. The concept relates to the symbol on the South Korean flag.

The drama focuses on the dynamics between the individuals of what someone here termed rightly as a “dysfunctional” family. Though I think every family is dysfunctional to one degree or other. It is because we as individuals are developing new desires constantly. Many of those desires tend to conflict with those held by other family members. But deciding what is most important: one’s love for family or the pursuit one’s own desires is the (philosophical) question.

Tae Sub is the embodiment of the latter. He placed his own desires over and above everyone else’s, and lived it. But on returning he didn’t get the welcome he expected. It is noteworthy that “family” by dint of their adherence to family values is already affecting him, correcting and setting him on the right path.

Tae Sub as the antithesis to those values the writer seeks to expose, therefore he is a necessary character. Although the character is somewhat exaggerated he’s someone we’re all familiar with if not living with.

    CW Says:

I’ve heard in Korea there’s a lot of censorship in music, could it be the same for dramas. After trying to catch up to comments, I wonder if the writers are pressured into writing what the “perfect” situations should be, i.e., hierarchy, marriage, divorce, abortion, adultery (only on the part of the woman), etc.

There are some realty programs (Love in Asia to mention one) that show Koreans in a better light, men that don’t cheat, mothers-in-law are kind, children respect elders…..Again, is this what they want outsiders to believe it’s like all the time.

I sometimes watch reporter Luke Cleary (English speaking) and it seems as if they mostly give him “fluff” to report. When I watch the untranslated news, it looks like there is more not so good news being reported.

  16. 291
    reindeer song Says:

CW Korea has always censored anything new going out into the world. They want the world to think they are an inviting nation and all is welcomed. NOT!
All the English news you see are all censored, there is always more to the stories, if you cannot speak or understand korean well you have to just accept what is being said, Koreans living abroad will not enlighten you. That is the facade they want you to see and know. Go to Korea, it a very beautiful country, but the people not very welcoming to tourist.RUDE!!!!!
