Synopsis

The lives of pedeatricians who battle daily to help children and their families’ happiness.

Few people are aware of the fact that the pedeatric ward exists seperately. Regardless, the hardworking individuals there steadfastly deliver on their promise to give their very best. They face arduous challenges daily ranging from surgery on tiny preterm infants as tiny as a pen and on fetuses. These doctors perform amazing feats day in and day out.

“Good Doctor” deals with the struggles and triumphs of pediatricians who are devoted to the cause of saving young lives. Also highlighted in the drama are social issues like medical insurance systems that are flawed and the hospital systems that are geared towards profiteering rather than saving lives, which ultimately affects the working environment of pediatricians.

The show will also throw some important questions along the way as the story unfolds such as “What should grown ups do for the betterment of our children.” The children in the pediatric ward are our children, nephews and more. “Good Doctor” seeks to help make the world a brighter place for the children. jury Says:

    Moon Chaewon’s interview

“Even though not all actors/actresses are honest, Joo Won is different”

Although Good Doctor is covered with the coat of being a medical drama, it can not be said to be a normal medical drama due to the unique combination of “Park Shi On” who suffers from autism starred by Joo Won and Cha Yoon Seo (starred by Moon Chae Won). Audiences who were wishing for the development of this loveline between Joo Won and Moon Chae Won even sent in petition to the homepage.

At the mention of Joo Won, Moon Chae Won said, “ It was good seeing his seriousness and honest attitude towards work… As the character is really charming, it is not a character that can be portrayed by anyone. It has to be someone who has the great courage to challenge the character. I am thankful for the accurate grasping of the character and main point of the drama by Joo Won.”

Continuing her previous collaboration with Song Joong Ki who is one year older that herself, her current combination with Joo Won who is one year younger have also been very successful. ”After working together with actors and actresses, I do not think that all actors and actresses are honest and serious. However, both of my partners (Joong Ki oppa and Joo Won) have very honest and serious attitudes so I was able to work comfortably with them. It was nice being positively affected by them in terms of attitude and sense of honesty.”

She continued, ”As Shi On’s senior in the drama, regardless of if the camera was on or off, I poured love and discipline on Joo Won. I think that’s how we became so close.” She continued by praising Joo Won as an admirable and incredible actor making it seem like “senior” Cha Yoon Seo praising Park Shi On.

    jury Says:

I remember that someone posted a question “is that possible moon chaewon will fall in love with someone like park shi-on?” And here her answer, I take from her interview.

Love with a disabled character, is it possible in reality?

In Good Doctor, Moon Chae Won starred as the character of Cha Yoon Seo who formed a loveline with Park Shi On who suffered from autism. Despite having been diagnosed as being successfully recovered, symptoms will still appear occasionally. Cha Yoon Seo understands his condition and yet still opened up her heart to him. If faced with such a situation in reality, what will Moon Chae Won do?

“It is still a story that lacks a bit of realism here and there. It was really busy during the filming process of the drama and all my attention was focused on filming. “ Going back to the beginning, if it was real, I would? Almost no one had asked me this question before. From the perspective of a person who has filmed Good Doctor, if there is something that I want share with everyone, it is a hope of having a little influence on how people perceive those suffering from autism. Hence, I have no discrimination against autism.”

Continuing, after the ending of Good Doctor when asked if it had happened to her in reality, she replied “I don’t think that such kind of love is impossible. When the filming was at its middle stage, the writer asked me how much I wanted Yoon Seo and Shi On’s love to develop. At that time, I said I hope it ends with a little hope. But after ending the call, I had a thought. I had clearly said to not have any bias or preconceptions, and even then it was still not possible. After some self-reflection, I called the writer and sincerely told the writer I had no restrictions and to write according to his wish. Therefore, in comparison to my initial thinking, the love between the 2 characters was able to develop onto the next stage.”

With regards to the position that Park Shi On has in Chae Yoon Seo’s heart, almost no audiences felt that it was out of pity or sympathy. Instead, more felt that it was a beautiful encounter between a male and a female. As hoped by the production crew and the actors of Good Doctor, everyone was able to recognize their bias towards people with disability gain more enlightenment. Moon Chae Won said “In previous love stories, whether it involved hate or love, it would succeed with a confession. Until now, there hasn’t been a movie of drama like Good Doctor that can serve as a reference. Therefore, I felt it was tough. This requires Joo Won and I to create and mold our characters. Out of our scenes together, the one that was both interesting and difficult will have to be the confession scene.”

“The scene of love and imagination? (the scene of Shi On imagining going on a normal date with Yoon Seo) I was glad that my dark circles did not show”

For audiences who were anticipating the development of the loveline between the two, they were made to wait. Audiences started becoming anxious when there wasn’t much development between the 2 towards the later portion of the drama. However, such anxiety disappeared with the highly anticipated imaginary scene, which was a surprise present from the production crew of Good Doctor.

When asked about the imaginary scene, Moon Chae Won replied “It was more well- received than I had expected, but there is a story behind this scene. Firstly, it was filmed overnight. As the schedule was very tight, filming could only be done after squeezing out some precious time. Furthermore, there were no lines involved, and we had to portray not 2 doctors but how a pair of lovers should be, to portray a picture of a normal couple. And the only theme was basketball court and ice cream.

Interview – Good Doctor Joo Won Grew Together with Park Si On

    Part 1

“During an autograph session everybody was imitating Si On in yelling “No”, haha!”

This is an anecdote from actor Joo Won (26) who participated in the KBS2TV drama .

Having brought much warmth and comfort to audiences, will air its last episode on the 8th of this month. A project that surpassed all previous medical dramas, it chronicles the story of savant syndrome sufferer Park Si On (played by Joo Won) who joins the pediatric department and changes the people around him while growing as a doctor.

’s highest rating peaked at 21.5% and has been dominating first place for the Monday-Tuesday slots during its entire run. The success of definitely is not without Joo Won’s hard work. He has once again been recognized as a top actor in the 20s age range.  We interviewed Joo Won who has finished with said project and is now neck-deep in rehearsals for the musical .

Part 2: “; the set was good, the crew good, and the cast good.”

has won the hearts of the young, the old, and many others from all ages. Joo Won says that the teamwork displayed on set was too good, thus he cannot bear to bid this project farewell. One can sense this feeling of unwillingness from Joo Won’s words and facial expressions despite having achieved success in every project from the time of his debut till today. However, this project has left certain side effects, e.g the slightly hunched shoulders, waist and neck plus the unintentional habit of folding his hands.

“Whenever a project concludes there is a tinge of sadness amidst the care freeness, especially when it is with a cast and crew whom you have been going through a lot with. I feel most sad. It is a great sense of pity; during ’s last shooting scene and when I knew I would never be able to play Si On again. To be honest, the live atmosphere at the set was really great, I felt that if it continued in the same manner we could have filmed for another few years without any problems.”

In a confined area called the ‘hospital’, the cast and crew spent 3 months together. How then, did they spend time? Since everyone is almost the same age, once they gathered it would be a din. Joo Won points out that Joo Sang Wook is the group’s mood-maker.

“If the cast comes together we become very undisciplined and noisy.  Since everyone is about the same age, we have plenty in common to talk about and we like pulling pranks on one another. Joo Sang Wook hyung is the mood-maker whose character by nature is very exuberant.  His age is slightly older than the rest of the younger cast but he mixes well with all and treats them like friends. “

Joo Won also talked about the child actors who played patients from the pediatric department at Sungwon University Hospital.  He lavished praises on them, including ‘Wolf Girl’ Eun Ok.

“Because of their presence, the atmosphere was lively. I love children; the child actors are a really cute bunch. Though they are young but their acting skills are excellent.  In future when they grow up I think they will become a respected sunbae like Song Kang Ho sunbaenim. The amazing thing is, I am an actor with 3 years experience. But if you look at the child actors’ resume, they are considered my sunbaes. When I asked a little actor and was informed that he first debuted at 4 years old, I had a shock.“

Part 3: “Moon Chae Won difficult/fussy? She is the most easy-going actress”

Joo Won even knows about the existence of ‘Joo-Joo Couple’. ‘Joo-Joo Couple’ takes its name from the first word of Joo Won and Joo Sang Wook’s names, it is a moniker given by fans of . We asked Joo Won a question – does he like Joo-Joo Couple or Si On-Yoon Seo Couple? Without hesitation, Joo Won chose the latter.

“If I have to choose one, I definitely prefer Yoon Seo-Si On Couple, haha. There was a possibility for bromance between Joo-Joo Couple in the beginning but in the later half, Yoon Seo and Si On spent more time together. During the early days of the production, I myself was curious as to how far Si On and Yoon Seo’s relationship would go. The writer must have also put much thought into it. Because if we were to look at Si On’s personality, it was unlikely that he would took the lead like a big namja.”

If we say the first half of the drama was about Si On’s journey to become a doctor, then the second half focused on Si On-Yoon Seo’s romance. The couple was just like the innocent and young love between a boy and girl depicted in the “Peter Pan” play at the end of the drama. At this point, we can’t help but talk about the chemistry between Joo Won and Moon Chae Won.

“Many people around us said that our chemistry was excellent. Personally, I am not the type who can dive into the scene immediately. Moon Chae Won sunbae also mentioned that many people said the same thing about her. So, we spent a lot of time discussing how we will act our scenes together. When I first met her, I was worried if she would be arrogant. In the end, she turned out to be really carefree and easy-going.

is Joo Won’s first medical drama, it is one which he would never forget. He met 2 autistic persons in the course of researching and creating the character Si On. When autism is mentioned, people will think of Kibong and Chowon. Although there was no one character which could give the accurate depiction, Joo Won managed to carve a unique character for himself. He also took the opportunity to learn more about the changes and reality concerning pediatrics.

“To me, the Si On and Yoon Seo Couple is real. It really breaks my heart when other people look upon them coldly. As the actor, Joo Won, I got really angry because I felt that Si On was pitiful. If not, I wouldn’t have poured all my frustrations to Joo Sang Wook sunbae. I am very happy that after the drama ended, the hospital which we were filming in added more facilities.”

Part 4: Actor Joo Won goes back to his first love – Musicals

What was it like to go from a musical star to a drama star? Having appeared in 2010 KBS2TV , , MBC , KBS2TV and , for Joo Won the most important consideration when it comes to choosing a drama is the script.

“The thing I consider most is whether the story is interesting. After that, it’s the director and also the cast. Every production is completed because of an interesting script, an outstanding director and actors/actresses. If everyone wants to do things their own way then the atmosphere of the entire team will be destroyed. During , Director Ki Minsoo would consider and coordinate everyone’s opinions, which led to a good leadership.

We asked Joo Won what kind of role he would be presenting to us next. Joo Won expressed his desire to return to his first love by appearing in the play in November. This is after a long absence from musicals.

“In dramas, there is no one right answer. the musical is also not an exception. I want to show everyone a different side to me. I hope that when viewers watch my shows, they won’t see the actor Joo Won but the character I create, like Si On.”

    “Moon Chaewon’s acceptance speech”

Actress Moon Chaewon received the Excellence Award for the drama, “Good Doctor”, at the “2013 KBS Drama Award Ceremony”.

Moon Chaewon won the Excellence Award of the Mid-length Drama Female category at the “2013 KBS Drama Award Ceremony”, held at Yeoido, Seoul, on December 31st.

In “Good Doctor”, Moon Chaewon, who portrayed an easygoing pediatric doctor Cha Yoonseo, displayed flawless acting that was touching and humane.

Moon Chaewon laughed, “I didn’t drink a drop of water to not go to the bathroom but my mouth is drying up.”

She said, “Personally, I really wanted to take part in a medical drama. No matter how much I study, I don’t think there is a possibility that I will be a doctor in my life. Because of this, I really wanted to portray a character of this profession.”

Moon Chaewon shared, “I hoped I would meet a drama with the same scent as ‘General Hospital’ of the 90s. I dare to say that Good Doctor, compared to other medical dramas, humanely narrated the reality of the daily lives between patients and doctors.”

Continuing, she expressed her thanks, “I would like to thank the writer who wrote such a script and the director who warmly cared for the actors and staff on set and Sangwook-oppa and Joowon-shi, who are here today, and even the professional child actors.”

Her heart seemed heavy as Moon Chaewon said, “I haven’t filmed many dramas but I personally felt that there can be a drama that open the hearts of viewers and that the quality of a drama can change according to how the viewers watch it. Truthfully, there were many concerns towards the existence of the special element of disability. I think I am able to stand here today and dare to experience this happiness because the individual who had the disability was loved and supported.”

Moon Chaewon’s voice shook but she calmly continued, “I greatly hope that at least the 2 hours every week were warm to those people. My relation with KBS is very deep and I really think we are family and I am very thankful.” As she concluded, “As an actress, I think it is my duty to not stray on this path, and above anything else, to not lose the emotion of loving people. Thank you very much. It is almost the new year so I wish everyone good health. Thank you.” she moved the audience with her teary acceptance speech.

Meanwhile, Moon Chaewon also won the Best Couple Award with Joowon that night, winning two crowns.
