Synopsis
The drama is based on famous folklore.
A nobleman named Kim Eun Oh (Lee Joon Ki) comes to town searching for his mother after hearing a rumor that she is staying at the village of Miryang. He has the special ability to see spirits, but pretends he doesn’t because he gets annoyed when spirits come up to him asking for a favor.
Arang (Shin Min Ah) has lost all her memories when she became a ghost and is unable to rest in peace until she finds out how she ended up dead. However, after appearing to three magistrates, none of them survive the fright of seeing her. When she finds out that Eun oh is able to see her, she begs for his help.
At first, Eun Oh rejects her request. However he changes his mind after seeing that Arang is somehow in possession of the hairpin that he gave his mother at their last meeting. He believes that if he helps her, Arang will regain her memories and give him information about his mother. He exasperatedly (then affectionately) nicknames her “Amnesia” and as the town’s newly installed magistrate, he teams up with her to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, which may involve the mysterious nobleman Joo Wal (Yun Woo Jin) and have supernatural ramifications.
As Eun Oh and Arang gradually unravel the mystery behind her death, they find out the events that have been set in motion have been a trap of the Jade Emperor, in his attempt to capture a rogue Fairy of Heaven who feeds on human souls. The gods cannot touch her as long as she is in a human body. Arang and Eun Oh’s participation in the events is crucial because this Fairy also happens to be the sister of Moo Young, the Grim Reaper of Hades, who cannot forget the love he once bore for his sister and is unable to bring her to justice. It is later revealed that the Jade Emperor saved Eun Oh as a child from a deadly sickness, resulting in his ability to see spirits. He also set Arang free from the bonds of the Grim Reaper after her death, thereby making her a spirit who roams the earth. In this game of supernatural stakes, Arang and Eun Oh who fall in love gradually have to pay the price because Arang has only three full moons in which to solve the mystery of her death and defeat their enemy…(Source)

i ever say arang can be no 1 drama in wed/thurs after bridal mask endend, my prediction come true now. I know bridal mask really hard to beat and Innocent doesn’t look’s promising because love revenge is usual theme, the story seem hard but the actor i doesn’t look suitable for this charracter
September 13th, 2012 at 2:32 pm
hi everyone! i’ll be back later for my comment…they sure are fast now with subs…i found ep.9 in dramacrazy…i hope i can be like GKA who can now watch A&M in viki.com…GKA chugha haeyo! hehehe!
@eny
you don’t like song joong ki?
i also don’t like the revenge theme of innocent man but it’s also a comeback for song joong ki (aside from deep rooted tree) so i guess we all have different taste…
September 13th, 2012 at 3:21 pm
@ance
Weeeh,I’m watching Innocent Man now but some parts are broken in viki pffttt
guess I like SJK better in sageuk dramas?he looks so young in innocent man kasi, but from the title itself ‘Innocent Man” so expected that he looks so innocent and young but i wonder how he gonna handle the part where he take his revenge?… my fave love and revenge KD was “Queen Of The Game’ of Joo Jin Mo and Lee Bo Young!
But still,I love Arang and the Magistrate coz my bias is the lead actor and missed all his martial arts skills…plus the story is getting exciting:)every episode is full of suspense!first time to ever watch a drama that I watched the raw episodes!
@eny
I like love and revenge concept
and guess I love melodramas more lol esp.if the concept is more mature.As for now the only melodrama that truly captured my attention is “May Queen” coz it made me cry alot lol guess I’m a masochist.Pffftttt!
September 13th, 2012 at 4:21 pm
i just see song jong ki a little in SKKS cause i don’t really follow that drama and i don’t see his acting really special and the charracter he portray should be full of emotion and i’m not sure about his acting.
I like melodrama too and i think love revenge theme is already done many time, but as usual i will try this drama later, may be if the story is strong and the actor not really bad i will watch it. my most watched drama is melodrama and the most saddest drama i ever watch is 90 days falling in love, i cry almost of the entire episode
September 13th, 2012 at 4:25 pm

September 13th, 2012 at 4:43 pm
episode 9: love is starting to bloom like those flowers…
the scene i like the most in this episode was when Arang stood up to Lord Choi and Satto & Ju Wal tried to block the Lord Choi’s hand…it was so manly…those stares are a simple statement that “i can protect her!” hehehe!
i also liked the night walk of Arang & Eun Oh although it wasn’t as sweet as i thought would be it was still a little romantic especially when EO said that Arang shouldn’t let him worried or be concern for her…i was screaming when EO said that! i really thought that he already figured he’s feelings for Arang but i guess they need more proof that they are starting to feel something more than just “concern” for each other.
i actually didn’t noticed the other scenes except for the king of hell punishing those soul…he really looked like a king in that scene.
by the way, i’m curious about how did the witch create those reapers of hers?did she create them or are they the souls that she caught?hmmm…
before i forget, i really like EO’s fight scene…he looked so cool! LJK is really talented!
@GKA
i guess you’re right that SJK suits sagueks better, like in deep rooted tree and sungkyunkwan,ahhh i hope that after this he would have a saguek drama again…but i’m still going to watch Innocent Man…i really love him! you know that he’s my bf right?hehehe! i really hope he’ll do more dramas before he goes to his military service…
September 13th, 2012 at 5:13 pm
@ance
Yes ance those ghouls were those souls were caught and the witch put it in a jar…you notice when Mu Young and Sato defeated those ghouls/fake reapers lol, the 2 jars broken??so probably those jars where the witch puts the souls of those 2 fake reapers…she captured souls to make them as her minions or her soldiers!whattta evil witch! hahaha!
I also loved the scene where Sato approached Arang in the morning and somehow he felt kinda awkward and tried his best to correct his behavior in the previous night…suddenly Arang said she knows why he was like that lol and he was like oh he was saved by the bells!lol I find it so cuteeeeeeee!I love the way how he protect Arang!and I know he was so damn jealous everytime Ju Wal was around with Arang lol!Oh boy,he’s inlove!I can’t wait for ep10!
September 13th, 2012 at 5:30 pm
How about the fan?isn’t it looks so magical?I was totally amazed how LJK used the fan as his weapon he looks so cool!and the fighting scene is daebak!they move so fast and I just love when someone tried to touch Arang and Sato was always in the rescue!My God, where can I find a man like Sato?he’s a great knight in shining armor!hehehe!
September 13th, 2012 at 5:42 pm
@Jennie
Omg, Jen, how awesome was ep 9! I so love it when they do a battle scene in this drama. LJK is really great at the martial arts stuff. He surprises me every time because he’s such a pretty guy and not that muscular, so y’ don’t expect him to be such a good stuntman at fighting scenes. But yeah, Eunoh rules this ep!
And Arang rules too. Way to be a pal and stick up for your friend, girly. I didn’t like it when she was being snippy with him last episode, but when she turns the sass onto someone else, man, is it epic. The look on Lord Choi’s face as she was telling him off was priceless. I grinned until my cheeks hurt.
I’m glad to see some development in the main couple’s relationship. I wish we could have seen this kinda of chemistry in the previous two weeks, but hey, I’ll take it now and enjoy it for what it is. Hopefully there will be more to come. They were adorable. I love how skilled Shin Mina and Lee Jun Ki are at displaying that awkwardness of first attraction.
More than the romance though, I’m more excited to see Eunoh finally standing up and doing his job. While helping Arang and finding his mother is important, I wanna see the magistrate doing…well, magistrate stuff. I need to like this guy in order to root for him. And for that to happen, I need him to be the hero of this story, and do epic, worthwhile things. Like fight for justice, and help the poor/weak (the spirit of Iljimae never dies, you know). I wanna see him become a source of strength for the people. And I think we’re gonna see more of that next ep. *excited*
Finally, lol… I can’t believe they change the King’s hairstyle again! Those stylists are having waaay too much fun with that poor boy. How many style has he sported? Let’s see…1, 2, 3, 4, 5?…hmm, I think this latest one is number five, right? Anyway, I really like it. It’s my favorite so far. Hope they’ll let him keep it for at least another week.
————–
Awesome scenes in this ep.
-The hundreds of souls crawling up the steps towards Hades’s throne. Man, that was a cool image.
-Eunoh destroying the demon-reaper with his enchanted fan. I dunno where he got that thing, but that is one kick-ass fan. No wonder he always carries it around. Glad to see some demon-reapers die, too. I’m with Hades, and am still bitter about the death of that one reaper last episode. Those guys are too badass to die that way.
-Arang kneeing Eunoh in the balls. lol. He can fend off 6, 7…8 guys at the same time, but gets his ass handed to him by one girl? Awesome.
Oh, and it looks like the demon-witch knows about the Kings’s plan to bait and lure her with Arang. That makes me super nervous. The future is suddenly uncertain again because now that we know she knows about the Kings’ intention… who knows what she’s got planned?
September 13th, 2012 at 6:03 pm
@Tonberry
Thumbs up for summarizing everything I loved in ep9:) ep9 is awesome!perhaps he keep that fan coz that was given by his mom?or maybe he get it somewhere from his master perhaps?where he get those amazing martial arts?
September 13th, 2012 at 6:05 pm
Opps where he learned the martial arts rather
September 13th, 2012 at 6:41 pm
@GKA
It’s clear he knows that fan can kill supernatural things, so he must have been specifically trained to use it thus. He never once opened it while fighting the humans… or the ghosts in that warehouse in ep 3 because he didn’t wanna kill them, just scare them off. But this last time, he snapped it open with the intent to kill/destroy that demon-reaper. He wasn’t at all surprised that the demon-reaper vaporized before his eyes after he slashed it with his fan. Maybe his master-who-lives-in-the-mountain met him, realized his special gifts, and trained him to be a ghost/spirit demon slayer?
Ok, so we know Eunoh can see supernatural being, and possesses a fan that can destroy spirits (and god knows what else). Maybe he is that special child the Kings of Heaven and Hell was talking about, the one who is their “ultimate weapon.” I thought they were talking about Arang that time. But now that we know Eunoh can actually kill supernatural beings… well, that changes everything. Perhaps that fan will be able to destroy the demon that inhabits his mom’s body. And if this is all going according to the Heavenly King’s plan, then maybe the King himself actually disguised himself in human form, came to earth, and taught Eunoh martial arts, as well as gift him with that special fan. His grand plan was all set in motion then, probably…
September 13th, 2012 at 6:42 pm
@Tonberry Yeah, awesome writing from you. Episode 9 is super from the romantic angle especially and the Hell scene is the best – reminded me of Lord of the Rings. Sato and Arang are so cute in this episode. Did you guys notice the confidence our girl has for the Magistrate? She sits cooly nearby and waits while her man fights off those hooligans. How cool is that? I hope we get a kiss in the next episode
Everyone agrees that Sato displayed some really kick ass moves while fighting off the bad guys and yeah, simply hilarious that just a single move from Arang turns him into jelly
Oh dear, the witch has a magic mirror too, like all witches do. Can she see into the future or like in Sleeping Beauty, the mirror talks and tells her whether she has grown old or not? And Sato has a fan that can kill souls. Is he a Grim Reaper too or perhaps that was how his dad got rid of his mum’s family? Does it mean maybe that Sato is related to the Grim Reaper? Well he has to, if the witch is his mum but we don’t know if the witch is really his mum or just her the demon using her body only, do we? Next is Moo Yeong. What is he? My guess is that he and the witch are probably twins but one went over to the bad side while the other to the good side. But she’s Madam Hong Ryeon and Moo Yeong’s sis is Moo Yeon. I am so curious how they are both linked to either Sato or Arang. I hope today’s episode will get Sato moving quickly in getting some answers already. He’s head over heels and forgetting he has a mystery to solve
Yeah, whoever Yeo SH’s hairstylist is deserve a shot in the head. Why is she toying with my boy’s hair so much? But I do like the white streaks though
