i’m just 2 episodes away from the finale and I’m really stalling and trying my best to make this drama experience last just that little bit longer. Song Joong Ki definitely was the bait in this drama and his performance certainly did not disappoint (his lil rebellious speech against his dad the King in the forest was real epic), but after episode 4 where the switch happens, I was already jumping onto the line and gladly be hooked by the plot. Every single actor and actress in the drama live up to their character portrayals. Special mention should be given to veteran actors and actresses like Han Suk Kyu, Ahn Suk Hwan and Song Ok Suk who made the difference with their experienced acting in this epic drama. Even the child actor who played Ddol Bok manage to capture my attention from the way he so convincingly bring out the character of Ddol Bok. But of course, the one who shines the most was Jang Hyuk. It is my first time watching his drama, but its obvious that he is definitely one of the best actors in Korea. Probably up there with LBH? Anyway, I will be suffering from Jang Hyuk withdrawal after this….so…that means I should go watch Chuno, eh?

Finally finished watching this today and I’m feeling pretty lost right now.Don’t know whether I am glad or sad that it’s finally over! I almost gave this drama up after SJK finished his part of the drama but the intriquing tale made me watch one ep after another. You either learn to love this drama or hate it, I guess. Many probably gave up because it is not your typical popular drama with young/youthful goodlooking cast, a predictable script, popular OST and romantic scenes to make you squel with delight. I love this drama because of its seriousness, the intensity, the depth and great acting from the veterans. I do not consider myself a fan of Jang Hyuk but I have deep respect for him as an actor. I first saw him in Successful Story of a Bright Girl, hated him in Robber and Penthouse Elephant, fell in and out of love with him in Chuno, wanted to kick his ass in Midas and for DRT, he gets a standing ovation from me! ” Dae-to-the bak” drama!

@Jennie,
How many KDs r you watching at once? Haha.
The Musical, Me too Flower, PP, DRT, Brain; any thing else?
I’ve also been considering watching this. It’s either this or Brain. Which one is better? And why?
January 5th, 2012 at 2:04 am
This is also supposed to be a v gd drama. How come there r so few comments? Nobody is congregating here to talk abt it, as they do for Brain??

@KDaddict I usually take my time watching on-going dramas cos I have to wait for subs. I don’t watch live streaming, so I’ve got plenty of time to switch dramas. I was juggling betw M2F, FBRS, DRT,P2 and 1KPromise all at the same time n believe me it’s doable becos of all the waiting time for the subs. In between, I caught Brain on tv. Most of the time, I’m like 2/4 eps behind. So when Musical, M2F n 1KPromise ended, I started Brain fr the beginning and shld b able to catch up today. Right now I’m only following P2, Fermentn F and Brain. Waiting to watch METS and Bachelor’s VS whi I haven’t started. I stopped watching Vampire Prosecutor and Ojak Brothers to follow DRT and M2F.
As for whi one to watch first, I’d suggest you watch Brain first becos it’s at a faster pace and lighter in terms of storytelling. Better to watch DRT on video, then you can fast fwd some draggy dialogues cos it can be really draggy. Both are good stories tho.

@KDaddict
I started watching TWDR due to SJK and stopped at Ep 4 when the switch happened. However, due to the high ratings and so many positive comments, I continued watch until the end. It was a good drama depicting how King Sejo created and introduced Hangul amidst the challenges and obstructions given by the antagonist team, Milbon. However, the plot has too few romantic scenes and I find the chemistry between the OTPs lacking. This is not surprising as romance was not the central theme of this drama unlike TPM. I am also not drawn to Jang Hyuk although he is a respected actor.
As for Brain, can’t offer any comments since I do not intend to watch it as I do not like medical dramas ( sigh..can’t stand the sight of blood!). Tried watching New Heart due to Ji Sung but have to stop halfway as I almost fainted when I saw the gory sight of the heart been operated!

Sorry just realized you may not recognize tpm which I used when provide comments on TPM!

@Jennie-59, tpm/tc-60,61,
Good to see you both.
I also am not a fan of medical dramas, but Shin got this prize n so many ppl raved abt Brain that I got curious. I watched it n liked it well enough. Brain just finished its run today. So I’ll start TwDR now. I feel the same way abt Jang Hyuk btw.
Absolutely adore Song Joon Ki in the 1st 3 eps n 10 mins! Too bad it didn’t last longer.

If anyone is interested in studying Korean in Sageuk drama, I’ve been working on a project on my blog studying scenes from Deep Rooted Tree. I’ve transcribed the Korean (it has been checked by a native Korean speaker) and then translated it into English. Then I make notes on anything of interest (language or culture) in the scene. This helps me study Korean and I hope it’s useful, but any suggestions or feedback would be welcome.
